Rose (Blackpink) has just released her first solo song since leaving YG Entertainment nearly a year ago. The song is called “APT.”, featuring Bruno Mars.
This is a product with a vibrant punk rock sound, reminiscent of the songs of "Rock Princess" Avril Lavigne in the years 2000 - 2010.
Currently, the song's MV has reached more than 8 million views in less than 1 day of release. In the Korean market, in the first hour, "APT." ranked 64th on Melon Top 100, 29th on Genie and 6th on Bugs - a good start for an English song.
Before releasing the song, Rose wondered about taking inspiration from a game involving alcoholic beverages familiar to Koreans.
The drinking game called “Apartment Game” was the idea for the Blackpink member. The word “APT” is pronounced “apateu” like the way Koreans play the game.
According to Korea Boo, drinking culture in Korea is quite popular, especially among office workers. Therefore, “Apartment game” has become a game that connects people at the party table.
“Apartment is a game I really like,” Rose told Vogue. “It’s simple, fun, and perfect for brightening up the mood. One day, in the studio, I taught the staff how to play this game. I started writing the song when I saw everyone having fun. Then Bruno Mars joined in and the song was finished.”
The rules of this game are simple, suitable for everyone and do not require elaborate props.
First, everyone stands in a circle and chants the word “Apartment” in rhythm.
Each turn, a designated person calls out a random number. Then, everyone stacks their hands on top of each other. The person with the bottom hand starts with the smallest number and moves their hand up. Then, everyone takes turns calling out the numbers in ascending order.
A turn ends when it is the turn of one person to be forced to call out the number of the originally designated person and place their hand on top. The loser must drink a cup of wine.
Another way to play the “Apartment game” is that instead of being forced to start from the bottom, everyone can move their hand up. The attraction of this version is that players have to quickly “rob” the top spot to avoid being the person whose turn it is the designated number.
Because the participants would put their hands on top of each other to form a stack like a tall building, the game was named “Apartment”, which means apartment in English.
Besides "Apartment game", some famous drinking games in Korea include: Titanic, Up and Down, Bunny Bunny, The Bottle Cap...
