Why is Ky Duyen's entry into the top of Miss Universe considered a success?

The Miss Universe 2024 finals took place on the morning of November 17 (Vietnam time) in Mexico. This year, the competition gathered 127 contestants and was considered the most competitive season ever.

The top 30, top 12, and top 5 will be announced one by one before the organizers find the beauty queen and 4 runners-up. The high competition rate makes Ky Duyen's journey in the contest very difficult.

Compared to other contests in the "Big 6" (ie the 6 biggest beauty pageants) such as Miss Earth, Miss Grand International... the possibility of Vietnam's representative reaching the top, even being crowned, is higher because the scale and quality of contestants are not as fierce as Miss Universe, Miss World.

Contests like Miss World and Miss Universe - the two most fierce and oldest competitions - are considered very difficult to win. In fact, since sending representatives to compete, Vietnam has never had anyone win the runner-up prize, let alone the Miss title.

So, compared to the other 4 beauty pageants in the "Big 6", Miss World and Miss Universe put much more pressure on Vietnamese representatives.

Speaking specifically about Miss Universe, recently, the audience did not have much expectation that Ky Duyen would be crowned. Because the contestants from the countries and territories are all very strong and have outstanding qualifications and skills.

So, Ky Duyen's entry into the top 30 is already a challenge, let alone wanting to go further in the finals.

Looking at the history of sending Vietnamese representatives to Miss Universe, only H'Hen Nie made it into the top 5. Other Vietnamese beauties rarely make it into the top 15, top 20... However, among them, there are quite a few who made it into the top thanks to votes (ie votes from free and paid audiences) such as Kim Duyen and Khanh Van.

Before Ky Duyen, Vietnam sent two consecutive contestants to Miss Universe, Ngoc Chau and Bui Quynh Hoa, both of whom were "out of the top (did not make it to the next round) in the finals. Notably, Ngoc Chau was carefully prepared in many aspects of skills, projects... Ngoc Chau even invited leading beauty pageant experts to practice her catwalk skills, behavior...

However, in the end she still sadly returned empty-handed.

Thus, the rate of Vietnamese representatives reaching the top at Miss Universe can be counted on the fingers, let alone achieving a title such as Miss or Runner-up at this contest.

Returning to Ky Duyen, with her recent performance, she is not too outstanding compared to the other contestants.

Foreign languages ​​are considered Ky Duyen's biggest limitation. The beauty once expressed confusion when answering interviews.

Before the final, Ky Duyen had some small achievements. However, her performance in the semi-final round made fans worried.

International websites such as Missosology and Global Beauties did not include the Vietnamese representative in their top 30. Websites Sash Factor and Crown Talk predicted that Ky Duyen would be in the top 30.

In this 73rd season, Ky Duyen still hopes that the contestant with the most audience votes will go straight to the top 30. If the Vietnamese audience votes highly, she can get into the top. Or in the final, a beauty with a good performance can still get into the top.

So, unlike Thanh Thuy who was crowned Miss International 2024, for Ky Duyen, perhaps being in the top is already a success!
