In the 2026-2027 school year, educational institutions nationwide officially use a unified set of textbooks (SGK). In Can Tho City, training and professional development are being implemented to help teachers prepare before entering the new school year.
Mr. Huynh Vu Lam - Principal of My Huong Secondary and High School - said that the unified use of one set of textbooks brings clear advantages in building education plans, professional activities and sharing learning materials between teachers. However, according to Mr. Lam, it is necessary to clearly distinguish between unifying textbooks and teaching methods.
Unifying textbooks does not mean unifying teaching methods. Books are a means; teachers still have to base on the goals to be achieved by the program and the students sitting in front of them to choose a suitable teaching method," teacher Lam shared.
Accordingly, professional groups at the school will review the content, identify changes to exchange, build learning materials and support each other in the teaching process.
Teacher Lam believes that after arrangement, when the teaching staff is larger. Diversity in professional experience can become an advantage if teachers actively share and support each other.

At Ninh Kieu Secondary School (Tran Hung Dao Branch), Ms. Nguyen Le Thu Thuan - Vice Principal of the school - said that the teaching staff determined that no matter which set of books is used, the core content is still to implement the 2018 General Education Program.
According to Ms. Thuan, the unified use of one set of textbooks also brings convenience to students and parents, especially in cases where students transfer schools or textbooks are continued to be used for future generations.
In addition, after the implementation period of the 2018 General Education Program, teachers have been able to access and familiarize themselves with the sets of books through training sessions. Therefore, switching to using one set of books uniformly does not create much confusion.
Textbooks are just supporting materials to exploit knowledge according to the general program. To continue preparing for the new school year, the school organizes training and fostering for teachers during the summer, thereby helping teachers consolidate their expertise, have a firm mindset and effectively exploit the set of books in the teaching process," Ms. Thuan said.
From the perspective of a teacher directly in charge of teaching, Ms. Ho Thi Thanh Quyen - Literature teacher, Ninh Kieu Secondary School (Tran Hung Dao Branch) - believes that using a common set of textbooks helps teachers more conveniently unify the content and requirements to be achieved (in each semester). However, the way of preparing lessons still needs to be flexible, because each class has different characteristics and student abilities.
In teaching, I focus on designing activities so that students can read, think, exchange and express their views, instead of just receiving knowledge from books. Testing and assessment also strongly shifts to assessing students' application capacity, reading comprehension ability and text creation, not simply testing knowledge memorization," Ms. Quyen shared.
Ms. Tran Thi Huyen - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Can Tho City - informed that the 2026–2027 school year is the year the whole country uses a common set of textbooks. Accordingly, the Department of Education and Training of the city has coordinated with the Vietnam Education Publishing House to basically ensure enough books for students.
At the same time, the Education sector organizes synchronous training for teachers from grades 1 to 12 on the book set "Connecting Knowledge with Life", with the participation of experts and publishers.
