More than 220 million copies of textbooks and 76 million copies of homework books and reference books have been completed and supplied to the market.

sufficient supply of basic textbooks

Before the 2026 - 2027 school year, the source of textbooks in Hanoi basically meets the shopping needs of parents and students. However, some textbooks are still locally lacking at stores.

Recorded at a bookstore on Thanh Thai street (Hanoi), textbooks for the new school year are sold quite fully, with many titles for grades. However, some individual titles are still not available.

Store staff said that the book source is updated daily. For temporarily insufficient books, the store will continue to import more when there is goods available.

According to staff, the shortage of some books does not significantly affect the shopping of parents and students at the present time.

While buying books at the store, Ms. Mai Thi Linh (Cau Giay ward, Hanoi) said that she was buying supplementary 11th grade textbooks for her child. Because she had not bought a full set before, she went to the store to find the missing books.

My family still lacks some books, so today I'm taking advantage of buying more. Basic necessary books are still available. If the store doesn't have any books, I can find them elsewhere, because it's not yet the opening ceremony yet, so it doesn't affect my child's studies" - Ms. Linh shared.

At the store, Do Thuy Giang - a 12th grade student in Hanoi - also came to buy the missing textbooks. Giang said that her set of books was not complete, including the missing Chemistry book.

I came to buy more Chemistry books because I hadn't bought enough sets before. Today the store still has books, so I bought them right away. If I don't have any, I can find them at another store, because it's not yet the opening ceremony, so it's not affected at all" - Giang said.

Talking to reporters on August 20, Mr. Ngo Van Hoan, Deputy General Director of Vietnam Education Publishing House (NXBGDVN) said that there is a situation of localized shortage of textbooks in some major cities, where many students are concentrated such as Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Hoan explained that the main reason is that some schools and students do not register to buy textbooks through local book distribution companies and the distribution system of NXBGDVN. When parents and students have to find books themselves at retail stores outside, if the store does not belong to the NXBGDVN system, they may not have all the books in one set.

According to records at the NXBGDVN store system, in recent days, the number of students and parents coming to buy books has been very large. Due to the sharp increase in demand at the same time, some book titles may temporarily lack at each store, but the source of goods will be supplemented after a short time, maybe only about a day.

Parents and students are assured, not afraid of book shortages before the opening day" - Mr. Hoan said, while emphasizing that the current situation is mainly a local shortage at some points of sale due to a sudden increase in demand, not a shortage of books throughout the market. Parents can contact the store system of NXBGDVN to be guided and find enough necessary books before the new school year.

90% of the textbooks have been shipped to schools that have placed orders.

Mr. Nguyen Dac Thang, Deputy Director of Ha Tay School Book and Equipment Joint Stock Company, said that the unit is responsible for issuing textbooks in the assigned area and affirmed to ensure that books are sufficient and timely to reach students before the opening day.

According to Mr. Thang, so far the company has transferred more than 90% of the book quantity to schools that have placed orders. The remaining part, mainly supplementary orders, will continue to be transferred before the new school year begins.
