Ministry of Education and Training requests schools to teach students how to protect personal data and use AI safely

High school students will be equipped with skills to protect personal data, identify risks on the network and use AI safely from the 2026-2027 school year.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) issued Official Dispatch No. 6206/BGDĐT-GDPT to Departments of Education and Training guiding the implementation of comprehensive network safety education in general education institutions in the 2026-2027 school year.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that the implementation of network safety education in general education institutions helps students use the Internet, social networks, online learning platforms, digital data and artificial intelligence (AI) tools safely, healthily, humanely and responsibly.

At the same time, this education helps to form and develop for students the essential competencies of digital citizens; improve the responsibility and coordination capacity of schools, teachers, school counselors, parents and related forces in preventing, detecting, receiving, initially supporting, handling and recovering after incidents in the digital environment; contributing to building a safe, healthy digital education environment suitable for the characteristics of general education students.

Select content suitable for grade level, subject, and implementation conditions

According to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training, general education institutions select and arrange comprehensive network safety education content suitable for the level of education, subject, educational activities, implementation conditions and psychological characteristics of students.

In which, the content focuses on 8 main topics including: Exploiting and evaluating digital information and identifying information risks; communication, cooperation, behavior and digital citizens; digital identity management, personal data and privacy; device and account safety and incident response; digital health, digital security and digital life balance; digital content creation, digital copyright and responsibility; safe use of AI in learning and living; finding support, restoring and contributing to the digital community.

The Ministry of Education and Training also specifically guides general education institutions to develop plans and implement comprehensive network safety education content according to school education plans, plans for organizing teaching subjects/educational activities, lesson plans, school and class codes of digital behavior and periodic assessments.

Diversifying forms of education, strengthening school-family coordination

The Ministry of Education and Training requires the organization of teaching Informatics according to the general education program; and at the same time strengthen the integration and integration of content on information security, personal data protection, digital ethics, safe use of technology and AI, in accordance with the psychological characteristics and required requirements of the subject at each level of education.

Educational institutions integrate comprehensive network safety education content into related subjects and educational activities in a suitable and practical direction, avoiding overload, forced or formality.

Schools organize experiential activities, class activities, flag-raising activities, student forums, communication contests, small projects, digital technology clubs, STEM/STEAM, AI, digital situation handling drills; activities of the second session for educational institutions organizing 2 sessions/day; do not organize more outside the approved school education plan.

Educational institutions deploy school counseling and individual/group support for students facing digital risks; establish a friendly, confidential, and accessible reporting channel; organize rehabilitation activities, psychological support and recurrence prevention. Coordinate with student families to guide the management of equipment, data, Internet usage time, AI use and handling when children encounter digital incidents.

The Ministry of Education and Training encourages socialization and cooperation with higher education institutions, research institutions, technology businesses, information security experts, psychological experts, police agencies, health, mass organizations, and child protection organizations in accordance with the law.
