The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) is seeking opinions on limiting candidates' university admission wishes so that they can be applied in the 2026 admission season.
The Ministry proposes three options: Maximum 5 wishes, maximum 10 wishes and unlimited wishes.
Ngoc Minh - a 12th grade student at Yen Hoa High School - said that students should still register many wishes because this helps increase the chances of admission for candidates.

This is also the opinion of Bich Diep - a 12th grade student at the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities (Hanoi National University).
"This is how students can try to achieve their goals and feel safer and more comfortable when registering for admission" - Diep said.
Meanwhile, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Duc Son - Principal of Hanoi National University of Education - said that it is necessary to limit the desire to register for university admission.
"The registration of many wishes is scattered, the consequences are unclear professional commitments, leading to waste later. Therefore, it should be limited to a certain extent" - Mr. Son said.
The President of Hanoi National University of Education said that when choosing a career, students must consider many factors such as their abilities, personal preferences, whether the job characteristics are suitable, what the job characteristics are, whether they are committed to the profession or not, etc.
"To choose a career is a huge headache. But when students have a clear orientation, choice, and commitment to the profession. When a graduate student is able to enter that profession, he will try to overcome difficulties and practice it" - Mr. Son analyzed.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), in 2025, the number of candidates applying for university admission will reach a record of more than 7.6 million wishes. This is a breakthrough figure when it doubled compared to nearly 4 million wishes in 2024 and 3.4 million wishes in 2023, while the number of candidates applying for admission increased by only over 100,000 compared to 2024 and increased by nearly 200,000 compared to 2023.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the number of candidates registering for 5 wishes accounts for the highest rate at 39.6%; 30.9% of candidates registered for 10 wishes; 29.5% registered for over 10 wishes. In particular, 6.7% of candidates registered with over 20 wishes.
