Reducing enrollment pressure will reduce the pressure of exams, tutoring, and extra classes

The Standing Committee of the National Assembly's Committee for Culture and Society has just had a working session with the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET).

Exchanging views on general education, Minister Hoang Minh Son said that one of the first and most important goals of the Education sector in the current period is to expand educational access opportunities for students.

According to the minister, to achieve that goal, the education system needs to ensure basic conditions for teaching and learning, including "3 enough" which are enough schools, enough teachers and enough essential facilities. This is the foundation for all students to have the opportunity to study, regardless of regional or socio-economic conditions.

The Minister said that the Education sector is researching and implementing solutions to fundamentally solve the teacher shortage situation, while improving the efficiency of using existing resources to meet the requirements of education development in the new period.

Regarding enrollment pressure, especially enrollment into 10th grade, the minister said that the fundamental solution is not only to adjust the enrollment method but also to increase the reception capacity of the education system through investing in schools, classes, staff and facilities.

According to the minister, when learning opportunities are expanded, enrollment pressure will decrease, thereby contributing to reducing exam pressure and creating conditions to solve more effectively issues related to extra classes and tutoring.

Referring to career guidance and student stratification, the head of the Education sector said that stratification must be implemented on the basis of quality career orientation education. When students understand their abilities, strengths, personal conditions and the needs of the labor market, they will have more suitable choices for the future.

High school or vocational school is the student's choice" - the minister affirmed.

For teachers to focus on expertise

Minister Hoang Minh Son said that digital transformation is one of the strategic tasks to modernize education. Currently, the Education sector is aiming to build two important platforms, including the national digital education governance platform and the national smart education platform.

The State's investment in shared platforms will help the entire industry more effectively exploit resources for digital transformation, avoiding fragmented and scattered investment. When there is common infrastructure and platforms, localities and educational institutions will have conditions to focus resources on specific tasks, improve teaching quality and better serve learners.

More importantly, digital transformation in education is not just digitizing data or building separate information systems, but must create a modern governance platform, connecting data from the Ministry, departments of education, educational institutions to each school.

When there is a complete data system, the assessment of education policies will not only stop at input targets but must measure output results, investment efficiency and real impact on learners, schools and society" - the minister analyzed.

Regarding the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, Minister Hoang Minh Son said that AI will open up new opportunities for education, especially in supporting the personalization of the learning process.

Specifically, in conditions where each class can have up to 40-45 students, teachers find it very difficult to provide individual support for each student if they only rely on traditional teaching methods. With the support of suitable AI platforms, students can be guided in learning according to their abilities, qualifications and needs.

AI does not replace the role of teachers but is a tool to support teachers and learners. When applied properly, AI can contribute to improving teaching quality, supporting students' self-study, expanding access to knowledge and better preparing for future human resources.

In particular, Minister Hoang Minh Son set out the requirement that it is necessary to continue to innovate school governance towards streamlining and efficiency, reducing formal activities and unnecessary administrative tasks.

How to make teachers focus on expertise", from this requirement, the minister believes that all activities in schools need to be aimed at improving the quality of education, creating conditions for teachers to spend more time on their core task of teaching.
