Hue City People's Committee has just organized a meeting to celebrate the 101st anniversary of Vietnamese Revolutionary Press Day and awarded the 7th Hai Trieu Press Award. This year, the Hai Trieu Press Award attracted 120 works of many genres to participate.
Through independent and focused judging rounds, the jury selected 89 works for the final round. The Chairman of Hue City People's Committee decided to award prizes to 37 excellent works, including 4 first prizes, 7 second prizes, 12 third prizes and 14 consolation prizes.
In which, the investigative report series: ""Running away" from sinusitis treatment facility due to blood transplantation method" of Lao Dong Newspaper was honored to win the Third Prize.
The series of articles exposed illegal medical examination and treatment activities disguised as "high technology" at Mb Center facility (62 To Huu, Hue City).
From people's feedback, a group of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters infiltrated the facility and recorded many unusual signs such as incorrect diagnosis, "inventing diseases" of polysinusitis, consulting on procedures with high costs, and performing unverified "blood transplantation" methods.
The investigation process showed that the person claiming to be "Dr. Hoang Nhat" who directly examined and consulted was not a doctor. Many patients reflected that they had blood drawn and pumped back into their bodies after spending a large amount of money for treatment, and even in some cases, their health deteriorated, loss of smell and they had to be hospitalized for surgery.
After the series of articles was published, functional agencies intervened to inspect and determined that Mb Center operated without a license, used people without practicing certificates, did not list prices and used equipment and products of unknown origin. This facility was fined 97 million VND, forced to stop operating; many patients were refunded their contributed costs after the reflection of Lao Dong Newspaper.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan - Chairman of Hue City People's Committee - affirmed that the Hai Trieu Press Award has profound political, social and humane significance, and is a source of encouragement for journalists to continue to be creative and vividly reflect life fields.
Chairman of Hue City People's Committee also acknowledged and praised the contributions of the press team in information, propaganda, and promotion of the image of Hue's homeland and people to domestic and international friends.
