On the afternoon of September 26, Le Thuy Regional General Hospital (Quang Tri province) said that as of 3:30 p.m. the same day, the hospital had received 40 students from Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities (Kim Ngan commune) suspected of food poisoning after breakfast at the school.
Of these, 14 students are monitored at the Intensive Care - Anti-Poison Department, 14 students are in the Pediatric Department and 12 students are in the Infectious Diseases Department. All cases have been given timely emergency care, their health is basically stable, and there have been no serious cases.
According to initial information, the children's breakfast was banh tay, a traditional cake made from rice with sticky rice wrapped in banana leaves. Immediately after the incident, the school coordinated with parents and local authorities to take the students to the hospital, and the authorities also took food samples for testing and investigating the cause.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Quang Tri province, immediately after the incident, the unit contacted local authorities, police, health workers, and schools to coordinate in implementing measures to grasp the situation as well as send students with symptoms of poisoning to the hospital; at the same time, direct the review of food safety procedures at boarding kitchens across the province.
Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, at around 8:00 a.m. the same day, after breakfast at Kim Thuy Primary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities, many students had symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, etc.
Immediately afterwards, the school coordinated with the authorities and parents to mobilize a vehicle to take the students to Le Thuy General Hospital for examination and treatment.
