Ho Chi Minh City currently has 5 specialized high schools, including: Le Hong Phong Specialized High School, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, Hung Vuong Specialized High School, Le Quy Don Specialized High School (under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training) and High School for the Gifted (under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City).
In which, 4 specialized high schools under the Department will enroll students according to the city's general plan with about 2,240 quotas.
Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted is expected to enroll 805 targets, equivalent to 23 specialized 10th grade classes.
Tran Dai Nghia High School for the Gifted is expected to enroll 525 targets, equivalent to 13 specialized 10th grade classes.
Hung Vuong High School for the Gifted and Le Quy Don High School for the Gifted are expected to jointly enroll 455 targets.
Candidates taking the 10th grade specialized entrance exam will be allowed to register a maximum of 5 aspirations, including 3 regular 10th grade aspirations and 2 specialized aspirations, arranged in priority order (spiration 1 is the highest aspiration). Admission will start from aspiration 1, whichever aspiration is admitted, candidates will study that aspiration.
If not admitted to the 10th grade specialized high school or admitted but not confirmed for enrollment, candidates will continue to be considered for admission in 3 regular 10th grade aspirations.
Candidates will take 4 exams. Among them, 3 non-specialized exams include Mathematics and Literature (120 minutes/subject), Foreign Language is foreign language 1 being studied at school (90 minutes). In addition, candidates take an additional specialized subject exam according to the registered subject with a time of 150 minutes.
For candidates taking specialized subjects that are foreign languages, they can choose to take the exam in the correct registered specialized foreign language.
The admission score for specialized classes is calculated according to the formula:
Literature + Math + Foreign Language + (specialized subject score × 2).
Candidates are only considered for admission when they take enough exams, do not violate exam regulations and all exams achieve above 2 points.
The entrance exam to 10th grade for the 2026-2027 school year in Ho Chi Minh City will take place in 2 days, June 1st and 2nd.
And the High School for the Gifted - Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City will enroll students according to a separate exam, organized on May 23rd and 24th.
In 2026-2027, the High School for the Gifted will enroll 595 students for 2 campuses.
To be admitted to the school, students are required to take at least 4 exams, including: 3 non-specialized subjects (Math, Literature, English) and 1 elective specialized subject.
Candidates can register for a maximum of 2 specialized subjects, but must belong to 2 different groups:
Group 1: Math, Literature
Group 2: English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics
Non-specialized exams include multiple-choice and essay; specialized essay exams (English includes multiple-choice).
The exam score is calculated on a scale of 10, in which specialized subjects have a coefficient of 2, non-specialized subjects have a coefficient of 1. All exams in the admission combination must be above 2 points.
The admission score is calculated according to the formula: Math + Literature + English (non-specialized) + (specialized subject x 2).
Candidates can simultaneously register for the entrance exam to the High School for the Gifted and the remaining 4 specialized high schools.
