Many students were beaten
Regarding the case of a teacher beating a first grader (at Ba Dinh Primary School, Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province) causing bruises on her back, many parents whose children study at this school said that this teacher had beaten many other students.
Ms. D (parent of a student in class 1B, Ba Dinh Primary School) said that before the incident where parents accused Ms. Tam of beating students, her daughter was also beaten by Ms. Tam many times, sometimes leaving bruises and scratches on her face, so she took pictures and reported it directly to the teacher.
“On the way to pick up my child from school, he kept crying and said that the teacher hit and slapped him a lot, it hurt so much, mom, he wouldn’t go to school anymore. At that time, I felt so sorry for him, we cried together on the way home” - this parent shared.
Mr. T (a parent whose child is in grade 3B) said that last school year (2023-2024), his child was also beaten by teacher Tam with a ruler until his hand bled. After that, the family reacted strongly, teacher Tam came to the house to apologize and promised not to repeat the offense, so the family forgave him.
“I thought the teacher would change, but a short time later, I heard parents in the class accuse Ms. Tam of continuing to beat students. After that, the parents made a big deal out of it, and Ms. Tam was suspended from teaching,” Mr. T shared.
After the above incidents, many parents whose children study at Ba Dinh Primary School submitted petitions to the authorities requesting them to investigate and handle the matter.
Installed camera but still beat
Some parents said that whenever their children were beaten by the teacher, they did not dare to say anything because the teacher told them that if anyone asked, they should say that their classmates had beaten and pushed them. Only when the parents questioned the children did they realize that the teacher was the one who had beaten them.
"Every class has security cameras, but we parents are not allowed to monitor them, because only the school can manage and monitor them," said one parent.
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Vo Dao Hoa - Principal of Ba Dinh Primary School - confirmed that cameras are installed in all classrooms of the school, and the management of this camera system is by the school's Board of Directors.
“Last school year, Ms. Tam was suspended from teaching due to her actions of beating a student. Later, the parents submitted a petition for her to continue teaching and the school approved it. As for the camera system installed in the classrooms, the Board of Directors will monitor and follow up. If teachers are found to have acted inappropriately, they will take immediate corrective action,” Ms. Hoa shared.
According to parents, the primary responsibility for the incidents of teachers beating students lies with the teachers. In addition, the school's Board of Directors and Principal must also be held responsible, because only weak management, lack of close supervision, or leniency towards teachers can cause such incidents to occur repeatedly.
"Especially in this case, if the school had managed and monitored the security camera system in the classrooms well, this situation would not have happened so often" - a parent expressed his opinion.
Previously, the family of T.P.N (6 years old, student in grade 1B, Ba Dinh Primary School) discovered that their daughter had bruises on her back and unusual scratches on her ear, so they asked around and later found out that N had been beaten and had her ear pulled many times by teacher Vo Thi Tam.
Speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Ms. Vo Dao Hoa - Principal of Ba Dinh Primary School - said that after the incident, the school stopped Ms. Tam from teaching and transferred her to clerical work that had nothing to do with students.
"Currently, the school is waiting for the conclusion of the police agency, to see the level of violation to decide the next handling measures" - Ms. Hoa shared.
