This year's 10th grade entrance exam takes place in two days, June 1st and 2nd, with more than 151,000 candidates taking the exam. Public high schools in the city enroll about 118,500 students, equivalent to about 78% of candidates taking the exam have a chance of passing.
After knowing the exam scores, students can calculate their own admission scores according to each type as follows:
10th grade is usually
Scores for exam subjects (Literature, Mathematics and Foreign Language) are all calculated with a coefficient of 1.
The admission score is the total score of 3 exam papers plus priority and encouragement points (if any).
Calculation formula:
Admission score = Literature + Math + Foreign Language + priority points, encouragement.
Candidates who are considered for admission must take 3 exams and not have any exams with a score of 0.
Previously, students had registered 3 aspirations in priority order from highest to lowest. Students who are admitted to which aspiration must enroll in that aspiration and cannot be changed.
10th grade specialized class
The scores of non-specialized subjects are calculated with a coefficient of 1, while the scores of specialized subjects are calculated with a coefficient of 2.
Calculation formula:
Specialized admission score = Literature + Math + Foreign Language + (specialized subject score x 2).
Admission is only considered for candidates who take all exam papers according to regulations, do not violate exam regulations and all exam papers achieve above 2 points.
Previously, students were allowed to register 2 aspirations for specialized classes in priority order. When admitted to any aspiration, students must study at that aspiration.
If they are not admitted or do not enroll in a specialized school (including the High School for the Gifted under Ho Chi Minh City National University), secondary school graduates in Ho Chi Minh City are still allowed to participate in admission to 10th grade usually according to 3 registered aspirations.
Ho Chi Minh City currently has 4 specialized high schools under the Department of Education and Training, including: Le Hong Phong Specialized High School, Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School, Hung Vuong Specialized High School and Le Quy Don Specialized High School.
In the 2026-2027 school year, all 4 schools enroll students nationwide. According to statistics from the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, there are 11,110 candidates registered to take the entrance exam to specialized schools.
10th grade integrated
For the curriculum for teaching and learning Math, Science and English integrated according to Project 5695, the scoring method is divided into two groups.
Group 1: Students who have studied the English program according to Project 5695 at the secondary school level in Ho Chi Minh City.
Formula:
Admission score = Literature + Math + Foreign Language + average score of integrated English program (10 points scale).
Group 2: Students who do not study the English program according to Project 5695 at the secondary school level in Ho Chi Minh City.
Formula:
Admission score = Literature + Math + Foreign Language + integrated English exam score.
This year, there are 1,794 students registered for integrated classes at 10 high schools, including: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School, Bui Thi Xuan High School, Luong The Vinh High School, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Saigon Practice High School, Mac Dinh Chi High School, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School, Gia Dinh High School, Phu Nhuan High School and Nguyen Huu Huan High School.
After announcing the exam scores, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will continue to announce the 10th grade public school benchmark scores for candidates to compare with the admission scores and determine the possibility of being admitted to the registered aspirations.
