On the morning of June 12, more than 1.2 million candidates nationwide entered the second day of the 2026 high school graduation exam. In the morning, they completed two elective subjects, including Geography with a test time of 50 minutes.

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, the 2026 high school graduation exam includes 4 subjects. In addition to the two compulsory subjects, Literature and Mathematics, which were completed on June 11, candidates can choose 2 more subjects from the subjects: Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Informatics, Economic and Legal Education, Industrial-Oriented Technology, Agricultural-Oriented Technology and Foreign Languages. Candidates are allowed to register to take the Foreign Language subject different from the foreign language being studied at the high school.
Geography is one of the elective subjects that attracts a large number of candidates to register for the exam. According to data from the Ministry of Education and Training, this subject has 448,725 candidates choosing it, ranking second in the social sciences group, after History with 570,800 candidates.

Like other elective subjects, Geography is organized in the form of multiple-choice tests with a test time of 50 minutes. The exam consists of three types of questions: multiple-choice tests, correct/wrong questions and short answer questions. For the correct/wrong part, each question consists of 4 ideas; candidates answering correctly 1 idea get 0.1 points, correctly 2 ideas get 0.25 points, correctly 3 ideas get 0.5 points and only get a full score of 1 point when answering correctly all 4 ideas.
According to the exam schedule, candidates take the first elective subject from 7:35 AM to 8:25 AM and the second elective subject from 8:35 AM to 9:25 AM. During the time between the two exam subjects, candidates are not allowed to leave the exam area, except in special cases and must be supervised by functional forces.
The Ministry of Education and Training said that the 2026 high school graduation exam questions are built closely following the 2018 General Education Program, mainly focusing on 12th grade knowledge, and also having a connection with some contents of 10th and 11th grades.
The questions are designed according to many levels from recognition, understanding to application, ensuring differentiation requirements to both serve the consideration for high school graduation recognition and provide data for university admissions. In addition to testing knowledge, the exam questions also strengthen questions related to practice, requiring candidates to apply learned knowledge to solve problems.
Notably, Geography is the subject with the highest number of perfect scores in the 2025 high school graduation exam with 6,907 exam papers achieving perfect scores.
