Thai Princess Bajrakitiyabha collapsed in December 2022 while walking her dog. Doctors believe the cause is severe irregular heartbeat due to mycoplasma infection in the heart.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha is the eldest of 7 children of King Vajiralongkorn, born on December 7, 1978. She is the king's daughter with her first wife, Princess Soamsawali.
The medical team has taken the most dedicated and in-depth care possible, but her condition continues to worsen" - the Thai Royal Family stated in a statement on June 12.
The announcement said that Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand passed away at 7:48 pm on June 11, at Chulalongkorn Hospital.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha was trained as a lawyer and received 2 postgraduate degrees from Cornell University in the US. She worked for a short time at the Thai delegation to the United Nations in New York, before returning to Thailand to work at the Attorney General's Office in Bangkok and elsewhere in the country.
From 2012 to 2014, the princess was the Thai Ambassador to Austria, where she built relations with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).
After returning to Thailand, she became UNODC's Ambassador for the Rule of Law in Southeast Asia and continued to advocate for reforming Thailand's criminal justice system.
In 2021, the King of Thailand appointed Princess Bajrakitiyabha as chief of staff in his bodyguard team, conferring on her the rank of general. Princess Bajrakitiyabha is also a sports enthusiast, regularly participating in long-distance races.
King Vajiralongkorn, 73 years old, has not yet appointed an heir. Thai custom stipulates that the heir must be male, but a 1974 constitutional amendment allows women to ascend the throne. The king has 5 sons, but 4 children from the second marriage were granted inheritance rights in 1996 and have lived with their mother in the United States since then. For many supporters of the Thai Royal Family, Princess Bajrakitiyabha seems to be the most promising figure to succeed her father or as regent.
