At 10 am on May 30, candidates finished the Literature exam - the first subject in the 10th grade public high school entrance exam in Hanoi.
The Literature subject has a essay format, the exam time is 120 minutes.
The exam structure remains stable as last year. The exam consists of 2 parts: Reading Comprehension and Writing, accounting for a ratio of: 4 points for Reading Comprehension and 6 points for Writing.
Accordingly, in the Reading Comprehension section, the question gives the material for the poem "Moon in the Forest and Children" by author Thanh Thao. From here, the question asks candidates to answer 5 related questions.
In the Writing part, candidates must do 2 questions, respectively 1 literary essay question with 2 points and 1 social essay question with 4 points.
For the literary essay question, candidates are asked to analyze images of children in the poem section given on the exam. According to the new program, the exam questions will not use textbooks, so there will be no situation of guessing questions and rote learning.
As for the social commentary question, the exam raises a highly topical issue, which is the loss of connection with the surrounding life of young people. From this issue, the exam requires candidates to propose solutions to create positive connections to overcome the current situation, through a 400-word commentary essay.
Mai Son Nguyen - the first candidate to leave the exam room at the Yen Hoa Secondary School exam site with a radiant smile. The male student assessed that the exam was manageable. The social commentary part talked about the connection of young people with life, candidates easily applied knowledge and shared views.
Also at Ngo Quyen Secondary School exam site, Hoang Minh Nghia - a 9A1 student of Ngo Quyen Secondary School, Dong Anh commune - also commented that the exam was manageable, the content was not too surprising and closely followed the knowledge he had reviewed.
I hope to get over 7.5 points in Literature and expect the total score of this year's exam to be over 23 points" - Nghia expressed.
Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that this year the total number of candidates registered for the 10th grade public school entrance exam for the 2026 - 2027 school year in the city is nearly 125,000 students.
According to the exam schedule, this afternoon May 30, candidates will continue to take the Foreign Language exam with a time of 60 minutes. Tomorrow morning May 31, candidates will take the Math exam for 120 minutes. On June 1, candidates who wish to take the exam for specialized schools will take the specialized subject.
