According to VNU-HCM, in recent times, the unit has received many exchanges of opinions surrounding the information "VNU-HCM agreed to deploy a comprehensive admission method". In response to these concerns, VNU-HCM said that the orientation of building a unified admission framework at the system level is to streamline, standardize and reduce the complexity of admission work, while still ensuring full compliance with the Admission Regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, as well as the legitimate rights of candidates.
VNU-HCM affirmed that the 2026 enrollment orientation is an inheritance and continuation of the policy determined from 2025, not a sudden change or elimination of admission methods and scope that are being implemented according to current regulations.
In this unified admission framework, member universities are still given autonomy in selecting, combining and determining the weight of admission criteria in accordance with the training characteristics of each unit.
According to VNU-HCM, the comprehensive admission method is understood as the use of a general admission formula, allowing candidates to participate in admission through many different input data sources such as high school graduation exam results, competency assessment exams organized by VNU-HCM, high school academic results and other appropriate criteria according to regulations.
These criteria will be combined through weightings and clear, public and transparent conversion principles.
VNU-HCM said that in fact, the comprehensive admission method has been deployed at the University of Technology - a member university of VNU-HCM since 2022.
The University of Technology uses the comprehensive admission method as the main method, with the scoring components including the results of the Competency Assessment Exam; high school graduation exam and high school learning results. The implementation results show that this method contributes to reducing complexity in enrollment, ensuring fair access opportunities for candidates and improving input quality.
Based on the general orientation, member universities are currently reviewing and finalizing their own admission plans, including determining the weight, conversion methods and specific instructions for each group of subjects.
VNU-HCM will review, agree on the final plan and publicly announce it within the prescribed time limit.
Regarding the competency assessment exam organized by VNU-HCM, this unit affirmed that this is an important assessment tool, continuing to be encouraged to use on the basis of autonomy of member schools. However, VNU-HCM does not require candidates to take this exam to be admitted; candidates using the results of the High School Graduation Exam or other valid results are still guaranteed benefits according to regulations.
The direct admission regimes and direct admission priority according to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training continue to be fully implemented, consistently and unchanged, while being integrated into the general admission plan of each unit.
VNU-HCM said it will implement regular university admissions in 2026 cautiously, consistently and transparently.
