Cu Xuan Tien - Head of the Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City - VNU-HCM) said that 2026 is the first year the school applies the integrated admission method on a 100-point scale. This is an important change that candidates need to pay special attention to when monitoring benchmark scores.
Accordingly, the admission score is calculated from three components including the results of the capacity assessment exam of VNU-HCM, the high school graduation exam score and the academic results of three years of high school, combined with bonus points for English certificates and priority points (if any).
Due to the completely changed scoring method, this year's benchmark score will be announced on a 100-point scale, which cannot be directly compared with the benchmark score on a 30- or 1-1200 scale of 2025. Therefore, assessing whether the benchmark score has increased or decreased compared to the previous year is no longer very meaningful.
According to data on the admission registration portal of the Ministry of Education and Training, the total number of aspirations registered for the school this year decreased by about 25% compared to 2025. According to Mr. Tien, the main reason comes from the new enrollment regulations when each candidate can only register a maximum of 15 aspirations, thereby significantly limiting the situation of virtual aspirations.
Although the number of aspirations decreased, the number of candidates submitting foreign language certificates increased sharply. According to school statistics, nearly 9,800 candidates have submitted foreign language certificates, an increase of nearly 900 compared to the previous year.
From the above data, Mr. Tien predicts that the benchmark score level for 2026 of the University of Economics and Law will be higher than the announced floor score of 60 points, fluctuating in the range of 70-90 points.
Majors with great attraction such as International Business, International Economics, E-commerce and Marketing are forecast to continue to be in the group with the highest benchmark scores. In addition, new majors oriented towards technology integration such as Digital Economy, Accounting and Data Analysis, Law and Technology are also expected to have high benchmark scores.
For the legal industry group, Mr. Tien assessed that this year's benchmark scores will have a more positive trend. According to him, promoting the completion of institutions, arranging the administrative apparatus, along with the digital transformation and international integration are creating a large demand for high-quality legal human resources, especially in the fields of data law, e-commerce, digital assets and international investment.
Reality from the school's registration data shows that the majors of Economic Law and International Commercial Law still maintain good attraction. Notably, the new Open Law and Technology major this year received great attention from candidates thanks to the training orientation associated with the needs of legal human resources in the digital environment. With the strength of law training associated with economy, business and technology, the school forecasts that the benchmark scores for the legal major group will be in a fairly high range of 70-90 points.
In 2026, the University of Economics and Law recorded nearly 21,000 candidates registering for admission, of which nearly 17,000 aspirations belong to the group of aspirations 1 to aspiration 3. The Law and Economic Law majors continue to attract a large number of candidates. Management Information Systems, International Business, Auditing, Finance - Banking majors still maintain high attraction, while new majors such as Digital Economy, Accounting and Data Analysis, Law and Technology also have an impressive number of registered aspirations.
In 2026, the University of Economics and Law enrolls students using two methods including direct admission, priority direct admission and general admission.
With the combined admission method, the admission score is converted according to a 100-point scale, combining the results of the high school graduation exam, the capacity assessment exam of VNU-HCM, high school academic results along with bonus points and priority points as prescribed.
