In the 2025 admission season, a series of universities in Ho Chi Minh City have significantly reduced their floor scores according to the high school graduation exam score review method. Many industries have decreased by 1 to 6 points compared to last year.
At Ho Chi Minh City National University, the University of Natural Sciences reduced the floor score in most majors, some majors from 24 to 18 points. The University of Social Sciences and Humanities has slightly decreased in many majors, from 0.5 to 1 point.
Some schools outside of Ho Chi Minh City National University also decreased sharply. The University of Finance - Marketing simultaneously took a floor of 15 points - the lowest level in three years. Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry reduced to 16 points for most majors, including Veterinary Medicine - a major with a high score. Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry reduced by about 1 point, mainstream majors took 18 points, English program took 17 points.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education also lowered the floor, hot majors such as microchip Design Engineering range from 20.1 to 21.85 points.
The health sector group also decreased according to the general floor of the Ministry of Education and Training, 2 points lower than in 2024. Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy lowered the floor for Medicine, Dentistry to 22 points; Pharmacy and Traditional Medicine to 19 points; other majors to 17 points. Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine also reduced 1-2 points in most majors.
According to the analysis of some experts, the reason for the decrease in floor scores is that this year's exam scores in some subjects such as Math and English are lower, causing schools to adjust to expand admission sources. The removal of the early admission method also forces schools to calculate carefully, avoiding placing floors high, leading to a lack of quotas.
Dr. Pham Tan Ha - former Vice Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that the Math and English exam scores this year are lower, the competition scores are concentrated at around 19-21, from 22 points or more starting to decrease. Schools lower the floor to expand admission sources, but the admission score is unlikely to be reduced by 4-5 points as the floor level.
MSc. Cu Xuan Tien - Head of the Admissions and Student Affairs Department of the University of Economics and Law (Ho Chi Minh City National University) commented that the average score is around 19-22 points, especially in English, so top and bottom schools will easily recruit enough students. However, the hot industry group or the top school will still have a high benchmark score.
Dr. Nguyen Trung Nhan - Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry said that despite low scores, 10 scores still appear a lot. Some sectors at 20-24 points will be unpredictable, the health sector may decrease slightly, but other sectors will hardly decrease sharply.
