Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Trung Tinh - President of Can Tho University (VNU) - said that VNU currently trains 201 majors and specialties including 121 undergraduate majors, 58 master's majors and 22 doctoral majors, with a regular student population of more than 40,000 people. In the period of 2020 - 2025, the unit has trained nearly 19,000 bachelors, 1,600 masters and 92 doctors for the Can Tho, Hau Giang, and Soc Trang areas. In addition, it also coordinated professional training for more than 30,000 local staff, including more than 2,100 teachers and 900 IT students.
According to Mr. Tinh, the orientation of VNU in the coming period is to train high-quality, excellent and talented human resources in strategic fields during the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, meeting the human resource needs for regional development. The goal by 2030 is to have 60,000 - 70,000 learners, of which the STEM group accounts for about 50%. Mr. Tinh added that VNU, Can Tho City and localities are promoting cooperation in training high-quality human resources in strategic technology fields such as artificial intelligence, information technology, semiconductor microchips, biotechnology and high-tech agriculture. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Lanh - Deputy General Director of Esuhai Group, Principal of the Japan Vocational skills College (JPC) in My Xuyen Ward (Can Tho City) - said that JPC is invested in a vocational training model directly linked to recruitment from Japanese enterprises. This is the first model in the Mekong Delta, formed on the basis of cooperation between Esuhai Company and the People's Committee of Soc Trang province (now under Can Tho city).
JPC students are trained according to Japanese standards, trained in Japanese, work skills and physical fitness according to international standards.
