Unusually high benchmark scores, experts worry about unfairness
In 2025, the university admission scores for some majors will increase dramatically, many majors will reach the absolute mark of 30/30 such as Medicine (Vietnam Military Medical Academy), International Relations (Vietnam Military Academy of Military Sciences), English Pedagogy, Chinese Pedagogy (Hanoi National University, Hue University). Dozens of other majors with benchmarks of 29 points or higher, in which pedagogical, information technology, computer science, and artificial intelligence continue to be the "hot" majors.
The reason is explained that the mechanism for converting standard scores from many admission methods (graduation exams, certificates, excellent student awards, academic records, etc.), along with the attraction of pedagogical majors, enjoy many preferential policies. Hot industries are highly competitive, so the benchmark scores do not only not decrease but also increase, contrary to the initial prediction.
However, many experts are concerned about the risk of unfairness when each school applies its own conversion method, making it difficult for candidates to grasp. In the first days of school, parents and new students are busy taking care of their accommodation to stabilize before the new school year. At Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, many families took the opportunity to register for a dormitory on the day of the admission procedure on August 24. Ms. Tran Thi Dieu Hien (Dong Thap) shared her wish to have her children in a dormitory to reduce costs and feel more secure than renting a room outside.
Many other parents choose to find a room around the school. Ms. Nguyen Thi Dong (old Tien Giang province) said that the rental price currently fluctuates between 2-4 million VND/room, so she plans to rent a room under 3 million VND and then find a partner to live with. Van Hien University said it has surveyed and compiled more than 5,000 rooms that meet the criteria of safety, cleanliness, and closeness to the school.
