Strategic orientation for science and technology human resource training
The speech of General Secretary and President To Lam at the 120th anniversary of the tradition of Hanoi National University is not only a recognition of the great contributions of Vietnamese higher education, but also an important message, showing the strategic vision of the role of universities in the new development stage of the country.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh - Vice Rector of the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) - said that for Vietnam National University, Hanoi in general and the University of Science in particular, the speech has transmitted a very strong motivation. That is the requirement and also the expectation that Vietnam National University, Hanoi must promote its role and position commensurate with very important keywords: "national", "essence", "pioneer", "center of knowledge connection".
This is a great encouragement for the team of teachers, scientists and learners of the School. At the same time, the speech also reminds us to strongly innovate our thinking and working methods to meet the expectations and beliefs of Party and State leaders in a leading basic science university in the country" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh emphasized.
School leaders also said that in the coming time, the School will continue to focus on strongly developing basic science fields with strengths in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Materials Science, Earth Sciences and Environment. This is the foundation of most strategic technologies that are currently prioritized for development such as artificial intelligence, semiconductor technology, biotechnology, new materials, new energy, big data, green and sustainable technology.
In addition, the University focuses on developing strong research groups and key laboratories, excellent research centers to link and focus resources to promote research associated with foundational technologies that the country is prioritizing to develop, as well as major problems that localities and businesses are concerned about to create a new breakthrough development step.
At the same time, the University strengthens substantive and in-depth cooperation with businesses, research institutes and international partners to fulfill the mission of training and fostering talents, promoting knowledge and technology transfer, actively participating in the national innovation ecosystem and making practical contributions to the socio-economic development of the country.

Strong innovation is needed
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh - Vice Rector of the University of Science (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), to become a pioneer force in training science and technology human resources, universities need to strongly innovate in 3 aspects:
Further accelerate the process of innovating training models, shifting from knowledge transfer to developing research capacity, creative thinking and the ability to solve practical problems.
Strengthen the organic link between training and scientific research and innovation, so that universities are not only a place to train human resources but also a center for creating new knowledge, new technologies and startup ideas.
Innovate the connection method between universities and the State, businesses and society, thereby forming a network of science and technology and innovation ecosystems in universities with the active and substantive participation of stakeholders.

For universities to effectively implement the above orientations, synchronous coordination in policies and resources is very necessary, especially mechanisms to promote university autonomy, investment in research and attracting talent, and developing a national innovation ecosystem. When those conditions are ensured, universities will have more opportunities to contribute directly and effectively to the development of science, technology and innovation of the country" - Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Quoc Binh emphasized.
