Science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are pillars of development
At the ceremony to celebrate the 120th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of Indochina University - the predecessor of Vietnam National University, Hanoi on May 16, General Secretary and President To Lam requested Vietnam National University, Hanoi to focus on implementing 7 key tasks in the new period.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, Director of the High-Tech and Innovation Park, Vietnam National University, Hanoi, said that the direction of General Secretary and President To Lam not only orients Vietnam National University, Hanoi, but also inspires the entire higher education system of Vietnam.
According to him, science and technology, innovation and digital transformation are one of the development focuses that the country has chosen in the new era.

With the role of a leading university, Hanoi National University and universities not only have the task of training high-quality human resources but also must become a center for connecting, transferring knowledge, and bringing research and innovation results into practice.
Universities need to play a central role in the relationship between schools - State - businesses so that scientific and technological products can be transformed into value to serve the socio-economic development of the capital and the country.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem said that immediately after the speech of the General Secretary and President, the Director of Hanoi National University directed the development of an action program to implement the assigned tasks.
For the High-Tech Park and Innovation, the two immediate tasks are to review the entire system, the results of science and technology and innovation activities of Hanoi National University over the years; and at the same time promote connections with localities and businesses to bring research results to serve practice.
He said that currently localities and businesses have a large demand for scientific and technological products and innovation. Although there have been many solutions to promote the "three-house" relationship, the connection has not created enough strong momentum.
“As the focal point in innovation activities of Vietnam National University, Hanoi, we have the task of connecting domestic and foreign partners, connecting with localities and businesses to bring scientists' products to serve socio-economic development,” he said.
University knowledge must go into practice
In his speech, General Secretary and President To Lam emphasized: "University knowledge cannot just stop at lecture halls, laboratories or scientific publications, but must be transformed into better policies, more useful technologies, stronger businesses, more developed localities and better people's lives.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Ngoc Kiem, this message shows that universities must truly play a central role in knowledge economic development. In addition to creating knowledge and research results, universities must also spread values to the community.
If research topics only serve training and are not transformed into products to serve people and businesses, the value created will be difficult to multiply.
He cited world practices showing that many startup products in the fields of information technology, IoT, AI originating from university research when commercialized have increased in value very much. Therefore, if research results from universities are transferred and applied in practice with the active participation of businesses, it will create an important driving force for national development.
According to Mr. Kiem, in the context of limited resources, investing in strong research groups and outstanding scientists is very necessary. In the coming time, it is possible to focus on a number of strategic and key technology fields; and at the same time have a mechanism to attract experts and good scientists from home and abroad to participate in research and contribute to Vietnam.
He believes that investing in strong research groups will contribute to promoting the potential and intelligence of the team of scientists, thereby participating in solving major problems and making science and technology, innovation become the driving force for national development.
