Date 11.8, information from a union official working at Đô Lương District (Nghệ An Province) stated that through information gathering, many union officials, teachers, and union members in the education sector of the district do not agree with the large-scale implementation of the National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students and the Cultural Ambassador Reading Competition.
“The reason for the above opinions is that many people believe that if these competitions are implemented on a large scale and with a strong emphasis on competition and achievement, the products will only be the work of teachers rather than the creative output of students” – the union official mentioned above stated.
At the same time, many union officials, teachers, and union members in the education sector of the district hope that in the upcoming academic year, the education sector will reduce the number of online competitions for students, allowing them to have more time to focus on their studies.
Regarding the National Science and Technology Competition for High School Students (Competition), Lao Động Newspaper has published many articles reflecting the opinions of many scientists, experts, teachers, and educators who have proposed reconsidering the competition due to its lack of substance and formality.
After more than 10 years of implementing the competition, there have been thousands of projects that have won awards from international to national, provincial levels, but there is no information about any project being implemented, produced, or sold in the market.
Especially, there are many projects with a scope of PhDs, high-level experts, and beyond the capabilities of high school students, such as cancer diagnosis and treatment, rare diseases, pharmaceuticals, AI technology, and new materials.
Social media has seen many pages selling projects that participated in the competition. There are many articles and information on social media expressing concerns, negative aspects, and unusual signs from the competition.
In 2022, the Ministry of Education and Training conducted a wide-ranging survey on this competition, including the content of whether to stop the competition or not. However, to date, the Ministry of Education and Training has not announced the results of the survey, and the competition is still being organized.
