Using AI to design self-study materials
Dr. Le Truong Tung - Chairman of the Board of FPT University, FPT Corporation - commented that in the context of the current AI explosion, it is time for cadres, lecturers and teachers to take a serious look and make fundamental changes in teaching activities.
According to a group of teachers from FPT Can Tho High School (including Mr. Nguyen Ba Huy, Mr. Nguyen Minh Man, Ms. Mai Thi Thanh Binh), since the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year, teachers have used AI-integrated learning materials to support self-study in reviewing for the high school graduation exam in Literature according to the 2018 General Education Program (GEP) for grade 12 students of the school.
Ms. Thanh Binh said that in the process of using AI to design self-study materials, teachers identified and built content; used Napkin AI to draw mind maps; used Invideo AI to build instructional videos, explaining knowledge; then used Briskteaching AI to build assessment and test questions.
Through the survey, more than 80% of students found that AI-generated content provided a good experience in learning Literature. Teachers and AI work together to improve the learning experience, AI helps optimize the educational process and increase productivity, while attracting students' interest in learning.
Recently, popular AI applications have been applied by FPT staff, lecturers and teachers in teaching such as: GPT Chat, AI-integrated chatbot, learning support platforms with AI applications such as software engineering, graphic design, social constructivist learning methods on the Edunext platform, or specific subjects such as English, History, Mathematics, STEM and Robotics...
Lack of skills in asking questions with GPT Chat
According to the research results of Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Head of Training Department, FPT Polytechnic College, Hai Phong campus - on the application of AI in personalized learning, 94.9% of students have used Chat GPT, proving that this tool is increasingly popular in learning; 96.7% of students use Chat GPT to support learning, showing the practical usefulness of this tool.
Of these, 77.3% of students used GPT Chat to solve difficult exercises or questions; 73.7% used it to explain complex concepts; 41.1% used it to create personalized learning plans.
However, Mr. Dung also pointed out the difficulties of students when using Chat GPT in studying. According to the results, 82.8% of students said that the answers from Chat GPT are sometimes inaccurate, due to algorithm limitations or students' lack of questioning skills; 65.6% of students said that Chat GPT only partially meets the needs of personalized learning.
From the above results, Mr. Dung suggested that educational institutions integrate Chat GPT into the LMS learning management system, support automatic document suggestions, answers and learning progress management; build Chat GPT suitable for the curriculum and student needs; help lecturers use Chat GPT in teaching and supporting students; integrate Chat GPT and other AI tools into the learning environment.
In particular, organize training on GPT Chat usage skills, guide students on how to ask questions and effectively use GPT Chat features. Support students in accessing GPT-4 version. Regulate the proper use of AI, cite sources and develop real skills for students.
