Millions of hearts turn to flood-hit provinces

These days, the whole family of Ms. Pham Hoai Thu (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) is busy preparing supplies and calling for donations for people in flood-hit areas in the northern mountainous provinces. The two children are also enthusiastically helping their grandparents make cotton floss, sesame salt... to send to friends in the flood-hit areas.

"Through this activity, I hope to be able to support people in flood-affected areas. I also want to teach my children the spirit of "mutual love" and "helping each other" - Ms. Thu shared.

Currently, many schools in Hanoi as well as across the country have called for support for people in flood-affected areas.

At Luong The Vinh Secondary and High School, just a few hours after launching the fundraising campaign, parents and students of the school continuously sent donations through homeroom teachers. This donation was sent by the school to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; the Thanh Tri District Fatherland Front Committee, and the Cau Giay District Red Cross Society, Hanoi.

Commenting that storm No. 3 caused a lot of damage to the entire education sector, Minister Nguyen Kim Son asked the Departments of Education and Training and educational institutions to promote support and contributions, including to students. According to the minister, whether students donate 1,000 VND or a pencil, it is very necessary, because it is the spirit of education, the spirit of sharing...

Previously, on September 11, 2024, the Ministry of Education and Training and the Vietnam Education Trade Union held a ceremony to launch the Education sector to support people affected by storm No. 3. The initial results were to receive more than 8 billion VND in cash and 3.5 billion VND in kind (school supplies, notebooks).

Return teaching and learning activities to normal soon

As of September 16, in 23/27 provinces and cities, water is gradually receding and educational institutions are mobilizing all educational management staff, teachers, parents, military forces, and local police to clean, disinfect, and sanitize schools to resume teaching on Monday, September 16, 2024.

Mr. Ngo Van Hien - Head of Education and Training Division of Van Quan district, Lang Son province said that at this time, schools in the area have welcomed students back to school.

"The Department of Education and Training has also directed schools to review the entire number of students in schools damaged by floods, lacking books and school supplies. From there, it calls on organizations, individuals and businesses to donate and support books, school supplies, school bags... for the students. At the same time, it launched a fundraising campaign throughout the education sector to support school supplies and funds to help students buy clothes" - Mr. Hien informed.

Regarding the teaching plan, Head of Division of Education and Training Ngo Van Hien said that for flooded schools, students cannot go to school, a plan will be developed and adjusted for make-up classes. Students will be sent to schools in neighboring communes to study in the context of floodwaters not receding and students not going to school.
