On January 7, Mr. Nguyen Dang Vinh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district, Quang Ngai - confirmed that he had completed the procedure to appoint Ms. Nguyen Thi Dang to continue as Principal of Nghia Thuan Primary School.
Ms. Dang was once accused by parents of a series of charges that they said were not in accordance with regulations. In 2023, a complaint was sent to the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district, reflecting that Ms. Nguyen Thi Dang, as principal, had directed and illegally collected a series of fees, totaling hundreds of millions of VND.
In the petition, this parent accused the principal of directing the collection of incorrect and inappropriate amounts of money, lasting from 2019 to 2023. Upon receiving the petition, the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district directed departments and offices to work with the Board of Directors and Principal of Nghia Thuan Primary School to verify and clarify the content of the petition.
As a result, the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district concluded that the incorrect and non-compliant fees that the parents had written in their complaint were correct; at the same time, they requested the school to refund the incorrect fees to the parents. After that, Tu Nghia district issued a disciplinary warning to the Principal of Nghia Thuan Primary School.
In December 2024, parents continued to send petitions to the authorities of Tu Nghia district, claiming that the Principal of Nghia Thuan Primary School did not follow the instructions of the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district.
Parents said that according to the conclusion of the People's Committee of Tu Nghia district, Nghia Thuan Primary School must refund the entire amount of money collected incorrectly that occurred at the school. The school has refunded the amount collected incorrectly, but many parents have not received the above amount and have not received any information related to the refund from the school's Board of Directors.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Dang Vinh said: "Parents who have not received the school's refund from the incorrect collection must submit a petition for the district to consider and handle."
Regarding the matter of Ms. Nguyen Thi Dang being disciplined but still being reappointed and continuing to work as principal, Mr. Vinh said that Ms. Dang was disciplined with a reprimand in 2023. According to regulations, in a 5-year term, if 4 years of completing tasks well, 1 year of being reprimanded is still considered to have completed tasks well, meeting the conditions for re-appointment.
According to Mr. Vinh, the noise happening in the educational environment is sad. Therefore, when implementing the appointment process, the district assigned the Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee and the Department of Internal Affairs, the Department of Education and Training to work directly with the school. Implement the process of taking a vote of confidence and reappointment. The result of Ms. Dang's vote was nearly 100%.
“The Standing Committee of the District Party Committee unanimously reappointed Ms. Dang to continue as principal of Nghia Thuan Primary School. To stabilize the school's operations, the process of transferring Ms. Dang to another school will be carried out in the coming time. Before the transfer, the district will direct an inspection to see if the school has returned all the wrongly collected money. If there is still money left, the transfer will definitely not be possible, the district will request that it be completed," said Mr. Vinh.
