Gift of love
On the mornings of the days approaching this year's Teachers' Charter Day, class 4B - Chuoi village school, Lam Hoa commune primary and secondary boarding school for ethnic minorities (Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province) was busier than usual.
Entering the classroom, homeroom teacher Hoang Xuan Duc was moved when his students took small bouquets of flowers from their desks to give him. The colorful bouquets were neatly arranged in the hands of each boy and girl. Some children, seeing that there were no flowers around the schoolyard, quickly picked green tea branches to give to their teacher to make tea to drink. The students shyly said their best wishes to their teachers on Vietnamese Teachers' Day, November 20.
No matter what the gift is, teachers appreciate it and accept it, thanking their students. Teacher Hoang Xuan Duc shared: “You have made me very happy. I don’t expect you to give me big flowers or gifts, this is enough, as long as you remember your class, your school and your teachers, we are all happy.”
In response to his students' affection, at the end of the class, Mr. Duc rode his motorbike to the center of Lam Hoa commune to buy candy and milk so that teachers and students could celebrate and share the joy of Teachers' Day.
This is one of three satellite schools and one main school of Lam Hoa Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities. In class 4B, most of the students are Ma Lieng (Chut ethnic group) children, and their family life is still difficult. As a homeroom teacher, Mr. Duc understands the circumstances of each student, and towards him, the students are very affectionate and obedient.
Wishes for the future
After many years of being attached to this boarding school for ethnic minorities, everyone in Lam Hoa commune knows Mr. Duc. He has gone through difficult times when the school was poor, and then each generation of students grew up and matured.
Here, Mr. Duc often receives more than just one day of kindness from his students and parents. That is when the villagers bring him whatever harvest they have, a bunch of vegetables, a bunch of bananas, a potato or a fish they have caught…
The daily changes here are also a joy in the hearts of teachers. The school is gradually becoming more spacious, the teaching facilities are also complete, that has contributed to attracting children to school.
Teacher Duc confided: "I just hope that you have enough to eat, warm clothes to wear, can go to school, and that you study hard so that in the future you can contribute to building your village out of poverty and moving forward."
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tam - Principal of Lam Hoa Commune Primary and Secondary Boarding School for Ethnic Minorities - said that the whole school currently has 40 teachers, nearly 300 students with 1 main school and 3 satellite schools in the villages: Ke, Cao and Chuoi.
Here, over 70% of the students are disadvantaged and are ethnic minority children. Thanks to the government and sponsoring organizations, students have acquired a lot of new knowledge. This is the gift that the teachers here desire the most.
