Professor Nguyen Buu Trieu is a senior expert, former Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs - Hanoi Medical University, former Head of the Department of Surgery, Urology, Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
Professor Tran Binh Giang, former director of Viet Duc Friendship Hospital - a student of Professor Nguyen Buu Trieu, said: The passing of a teacher is a great loss for the Vietnamese surgical industry, a great pain for students like us.
According to Professor Giang, Professor Trieu is the first generation of surgeons in the field of surgical medicine in Vietnam - a doctor with many new initiatives in urological surgery, and the first person to introduce urology to Vietnam.
The Professor also contributed with leading professors in the field of surgery such as Professor Ton That Tung, Professor Nguyen Trinh Co, Professor Nguyen Duong Quang, Professor Nguyen Dinh Hoi, Professor Do Duc Van... to build the Vietnamese surgery industry, which are prominent names not only domestically but also known and recognized by the world.
Professor Trieu has trained many teachers in the Vietnamese surgical industry. The next generation affectionately called Professor Trieu "the teacher of teachers".
In recent years, after retiring, Professor Trieu has actively contributed, supported, and trained future generations of surgeons. In 2022, medical students were very moved to welcome Professor Nguyen Buu Trieu, then 100 years old, to attend the 75th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Hanoi Medical University.
"Our generations of doctors and students in the field of surgery will be present at his funeral on Monday, July 21, to see the venerable teacher return to his resting place" - Professor Giang shared.
"You are an exemplary teacher, a shining example for generations of students to learn and follow, always humble and not afraid of making a profit, but have made efforts to contribute to the development of the Surgery industry from the most difficult years of our country to the present day.
He has made silent but outstanding contributions throughout his life to training, and is a monument to Hanoi Medical University and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
