The only beauty in the top 10
On the afternoon of September 9, Hanoi Medical University organized Match Day 2026 - the day doctors successively choose their resident doctor training majors based on exam score rankings.
Le Thi Thanh Tra stepped onto the judging panel, confidently shouting the number 08, choosing the major of Anesthesia and Resuscitation, the whole hall applauded and congratulated her. She is the only female doctor to be in the top 10 people with the highest exam scores.
Thanh Tra used to be a student of General Medicine at Hanoi Medical University. At the graduation ceremony in August, the female doctor won the title of excellent student and good worker of the entire department.
To be present at Match Day and call out their names, young doctors like Thanh Tra must pass the resident doctor recruitment exam, which is considered one of the highly competitive exams of Hanoi Medical University.
Sharing about the exam preparation journey, Thanh Tra said that medical students almost have to start preparing for the resident doctor exam very early. Many students review from the beginning of their 4th year, while Thanh Tra started from their 5th year. She has devoted a lot of enthusiasm and time to this exam.

The last month before the exam was the most stressful period. All the students who were determined to take the boarding exam were very diligent and capable. Therefore, I think the results achieved today are also somewhat lucky, because all the students participating in the exam are worthy" - Thanh Tra said.
Tra said that during the exam preparation process, she still tried to arrange enough eating and resting time because if she doesn't get enough sleep, she won't be able to concentrate on studying. Normally, female students sleep about 7-8 hours a day. About a month before the exam, the sleep time decreased to about 6 hours a day and the closer to the exam, the less rest time, but she still tried to arrange it to ensure health.
There are times when I also feel tired and want to rest. However, I think if I quit, my friends will learn all my knowledge, so I try to study more. When I feel bored with one subject, I will switch to studying another subject to change, instead of continuing to force myself to study a content that has lost focus" - Thanh Tra shared.
For students taking the resident doctor exam next year, I think just trying my best and persistently pursuing the goal, my aspirations will have the opportunity to become reality.
Determined to pursue medicine from 11th grade
Tra said that her desire to become a doctor is also associated with a family story. When she was in 11th grade, her mother was seriously ill and had to be treated at the Emergency Resuscitation Department, Bach Mai Hospital. After that time, she became even more determined to pursue medicine.
At that time, I felt the meaning of the doctor profession. My mother was seriously ill, but the doctors wholeheartedly treated her, helping her overcome it. That made me realize that the doctor profession is truly meaningful and noble" - Thanh Tra recalled.
Thanh Tra chose the specialty of Anesthesia and Resuscitation that she is pursuing with the view that every major in Medicine has its own hardships and difficulties. Having chosen medicine, no major is really easy.
The important thing is which major I want to pursue. I chose Anesthesia and Resuscitation because I feel it is suitable for myself and want to contribute more to this major" - the female student said.
