Hanoi National University consists of 12 schools and one member faculty, with a training scale of 40,000 undergraduate students. The member schools are located in Thanh Xuan and Cau Giay districts.
In May 2022, Hanoi National University began to gradually move its headquarters to Hoa Lac, Thach That district.
Currently, the school operates about 100,000 m2 of construction including a complex of lecture halls, sports areas, cafeterias, dormitories, etc. The total number of current students is more than 6,000 students studying in a centralized manner.
Hanoi National University has just held the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the University of Technology (phase 1) under the project "Developing Vietnam's national universities - Hanoi National University Sub-project".
According to the plan, around January 2025, the component items of the project "Developing Vietnam's National Universities - Hanoi National University Sub-project" including the Digital Library & Knowledge Center and the Interdisciplinary Research Institute will start construction. When completed, the project will meet the learning needs of 4,400 students according to the development strategy of the University of Technology.
Mr. Nguyen Hieu - Deputy Director of Hanoi National University said that after this building is completed, the total number of students studying in the Hanoi National University urban area in Hoa Lac by the end of 2025 is expected to be more than 20,000, including first-year students from all schools.
Also next year, the university will continue to build the campus of the University of Natural Sciences; start construction of a number of practical and internship projects for the technology engineering block, a 5-star hotel practice area, performing arts, a Library and Digital Knowledge Center, etc.
The Vice President of Hanoi National University acknowledged that moving each member school to Hoa Lac is a difficult problem because investment resources are limited. Therefore, the unit has calculated a "rolling" plan, whichever unit needs to move to Hoa Lac first, gradually step by step.
"The University of Technology is the second school to be built in Hoa Lac after the University of Natural Sciences. Our spirit is to fully exploit the facilities as they are built to avoid waste," said Mr. Hieu.
According to the plan, Hoa Lac campus includes 21 projects with an area of over 1,113 hectares, meeting the scale of 60,000 students. It is built according to the "5 in 1" model, including talent training centers; technology transfer research; innovation; smart university urban area; public-private partnership testing and research training.
