The High School for the Gifted (under Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City) has just announced the organization of the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year with many notable points regarding quotas, exam methods and admission methods.
National enrollment, requiring academic performance from good or higher
According to the announcement, the school enrolls students nationwide. Candidates taking the exam must graduate from secondary school, be of the right age according to regulations and have results in training and studying for the whole year of secondary school classes from quite good or higher.
In the 2026-2027 school year, the school enrolls 595 students, distributed at two campuses:
An Dong campus (153 Nguyen Chi Thanh) enrolls 245 quotas with 7 specialized classes: Mathematics, Informatics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English, Literature. Studying 2 sessions/day, no semi-boarding.
Here, the program focuses on in-depth training, developing logical thinking, combining STEM, AI and orienting experts according to each field.
Dong Hoa campus (Ho Chi Minh City National University Urban Area), enrolls 350 targets with 10 specialized classes: Math (2 classes), English (2 classes), Literature (2 classes), other subjects each subject 1 class. Studying 2 sessions/day, with semi-boarding.
The program at this facility aims to develop interdisciplinary thinking, combining natural sciences, technology and social sciences, associated with career orientation.
Must take at least 4 exams, note when choosing a specialized subject
Candidates are required to take at least 4 exams, including: 3 non-specialized subjects: Mathematics, Literature, English and 1 specialized subject of choice.
Candidates can register for a maximum of 2 specialized subjects, but must belong to 2 different groups:
Group 1: Math, Literature
Group 2: English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Informatics
Non-specialized exams include multiple-choice and essay; specialized essay exams (English includes multiple-choice).
The exam score is calculated on a scale of 10, in which specialized subjects have a coefficient of 2, non-specialized subjects have a coefficient of 1. All exams in the admission combination must be above 2 points.
The admission score is calculated according to the formula: Math + Literature + English (non-specialized) + (specialized subject x2).

Each candidate registers at least 1 aspiration and can register multiple aspirations, arranged in priority order. Candidates are only admitted to the highest aspiration that meets the conditions.
The exam results and benchmark scores are expected to be announced within 15 days after the exam, and re-examination within the next 7 days.
Candidates register for the online exam at the school's admission gate from 8:00 AM on May 4th to 5:00 PM on May 10th, 2026.
From May 20-22, candidates print exam notification papers from the system and bring their ID cards when taking the exam.
Last year, the entrance exam to 10th grade of the High School for the Gifted recorded high competition with more than 3,500 candidates taking the exam. The average competition ratio is about 1/6, meaning only 1 out of 6 candidates taking the exam is admitted.
Regarding benchmark scores, the specialized Math class leads with 33.75 points, while the remaining specialized classes range from about 24.4 to 33 points.
