At the Admissions Festival for Science and Technology at the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, organized by Tien Phong newspaper on May 18, many candidates wondered about the training program standards for semiconductor microchips at the undergraduate and master's level.
According to the new regulations, candidates who want to study a bachelor's degree or engineering in semiconductor microchips must use a combination of Math and at least one Natural Science subject suitable for the training program.
In addition, the total score of the subjects reaches at least 80% of the consideration scale, for example, the minimum is 24/30 for a combination of three subjects. In which, the score for the Math exam reaches at least 80% of the scale, equivalent to 8/10.
Responding to this issue, Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education (Ministry of Education and Training) said that the professional advisory council for developing program standards recognized the basic and core knowledge that students need to study well in semiconductor microchips and STEM, especially related to Math.
"In the future, they will use a lot of knowledge of Mathematics in their studies and work related to the field of semiconductor microchips.
Through the survey, achieving 8 Math scores, students can improve their learning process. Therefore, the entrance exam council for Math is 8 points or more" - Mr. Dung explained.
However, candidates need to note that this standard for the semiconductor training program only applies to universities participating in the Government's program "Developing human resources for the semiconductor industry to 2030, with a vision to 2050". As for schools that do not participate or are not required to follow this standard, they can be admitted with other minimum input regulations.

Expressing his views on this issue, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hai Dang - Vice Principal of Hanoi University of Science and Technology - said that the semiconductor microchip industry cannot be trained at a low level, requiring qualifications and high understanding of science and technology. We need people with good abilities to learn and do this major. Therefore, the new requirements set by the Ministry of Education and Training are completely reasonable.
The Science and Technology admission festival hopes to arouse the love of science and technology in high school students. This is a practical activity in response to Resolution 57 of the Politburo on the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation, celebrating Vietnam Science and Technology Day.
