Student competencies that need to be equipped
The time when students complete their studies is also when businesses have the opportunity to access young human resources, preparing for recruitment needs in peak months. According to Ms. Ha Dieu Anh - recruitment specialist of Ascott Tay Ho Hotel Hanoi - the hotel currently recruits many positions in the kitchen, room, culinary and office departments, with preferential policies for employees before the hotel officially goes into operation.
Through job transaction sessions and actual recruitment, Ms. Dieu Anh said that current students have many advantages when entering the labor market because they have access to technology early, have many conditions to find information and improve communication skills. However, that advantage also makes a part of students afraid of difficulties, not really adapted to the pressure and actual requirements of the job, thereby easily giving up.
According to Ms. Dieu Anh, when starting to work, students need to have a spirit of willingness to learn and not be afraid to start from small jobs to accumulate experience.
The graduation season is a favorable time for students to connect knowledge with reality and experience the working environment. Those who actively prepare early will have an advantage when entering the peak recruitment season at the end of the year" - Ms. Dieu Anh emphasized.
Similarly, Mr. Le Duc Viet - employee of the Student Development Department, Tam Duc Labor Supply Company informed that the business provides many job positions in different fields, thereby creating more choices for students after completing the study program.
The most important factor for students when going to work is still the working attitude as well as the working spirit. Working style and serious attitude will be factors that score points in the eyes of employers" - Mr. Viet said.
Prepare early
On the job seeker side, students also tend to learn about the labor market earlier. Nguyen Thi Hong Nhung - a student majoring in Hotel Management, Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism - is looking for jobs related to hotels and restaurants and spends time learning about the requirements of businesses before the internship.
The female student believes that direct exchanges with employers help students see the gap between knowledge in the lecture hall and the actual requirements of the job.
Through direct exchange activities with businesses, I gain more understanding of my industry as well as the remuneration policies that companies set out. From the requirements of businesses, I can build myself up to try to develop better" - Ms. Nhung shared.
Talking to reporters, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Ngoc - Head of the Faculty of Hotel - Tourism, Hanoi College of Commerce and Tourism - shared that in the training process, the school pays special attention to building close links with businesses. This is considered an important bridge to help the school promptly update recruitment trends, professional requirements, skills as well as changes in the labor market.
From that reality, the training program is adjusted to be closer to the needs of businesses, helping students equip themselves with the necessary knowledge and skills right from when they are still in school. This connection also creates conditions for students to soon access the real working environment, better visualize the requirements of the profession and proactively prepare their luggage before entering the labor market.
We are committed to businesses, training on the basis of business orientation, so we are supported a lot. Through this, schools can grasp what businesses need to orient students early and far, instead of waiting until they graduate to start learning about the labor market" - Ms. Ngoc shared.
Mr. Lai Hong Dang - Deputy Director in charge of the Hanoi Youth Employment Service and Support Center - said that young people need to have a clear career orientation instead of just looking for a job in the short term.
The current labor market has many industries that need human resources. In particular, industrial enterprises and general job groups often have a large recruitment demand. However, if you want to develop for a long time, you need to have expertise, be attached to a profession and constantly improve your capacity to create higher value in your work" - Mr. Dang assessed.
According to Mr. Dang, a part of students have not yet clearly defined their career path after graduation. Carefully understanding majors, market requirements and proactively accumulating skills and experience will help young people have better preparation when entering the labor market.
From lecture halls to the labor market is a transition journey that requires proactiveness from both sides. Businesses need suitable human resources, while students must prepare sufficient capacity to seize job opportunities.
