On February 10, informing reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Dr. Nguyen Van Khoa - Director of Nghe An Department of Education and Training - said that in the 2025–2026 school year, the number of 9th grade students in Vinh City (old) increased by more than 10,000 compared to the previous school year. This is a sudden increase, creating great pressure for the enrollment of 10th grade in the coming school year.
According to Mr. Khoa, currently Vinh City (old) only has 3 public high schools, so if there are no timely solutions, the pressure of entrance exams will increase, directly affecting thousands of students and parents.

Faced with the above situation, the Department of Education and Training has advised the Provincial People's Committee on many options. Among them, noteworthy is the proposal to study the conversion of Hermann Gmeiner Vinh High School into a public school. If it is accepted, the school will be assigned public enrollment quotas, contributing to increasing school places and reducing pressure on the existing system.
In addition, the Department also proposed to increase enrollment quotas for high schools suitable to facilities and teaching staff; and at the same time tighten regulations on school transfers for 10th grade students, in order to limit the situation of students being concentrated in the central area.
The industry's point of view is to ensure the right to education of students, but not to let overload occur, affecting the quality of education. Solutions are being carefully and synchronously calculated, both for short-term and long-term solutions," said Dr. Nguyen Van Khoa.
Currently, the Nghe An Department of Education and Training is continuing to review the school network planning for the period 2026–2030, associated with the population growth rate and urban development orientation of the locality, in order to proactively respond to enrollment pressure in the coming years.
