Regarding the case of 46 cases with suspected food poisoning symptoms at Dang Thuy Tram Elementary School (Tan Thuan ward) that occurred at the end of last month, on May 5, some schools are proactively stopping semi-boarding meals, waiting for conclusions from functional agencies.
Schools stopping semi-boarding meals include: Dinh Bo Linh Primary School, Tan Hung Primary School, Tran Quoc Tuan Secondary School and Dang Thuy Tram Primary School. All 4 schools are provided with meals by one unit.
At Dinh Bo Linh Primary School (Tan My ward), after temporarily stopping semi-boarding, the school switched to teaching one session/day due to the majority of parents' consensus.
According to the school representative, hot weather makes it quite difficult to pick up and drop off students at noon, so the school temporarily cuts off extracurricular activities and afternoon classes. Morning classes will be increased, students will leave school later; in the afternoon, students will review at home according to the teacher's instructions.
The school said that semi-boarding activities will only be reorganized when functional agencies have an official conclusion about the incident at Dang Thuy Tram Elementary School.
Previously, Lao Dong Newspaper reported that in the late afternoon of April 24, 2026, some students of this school showed symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, fatigue and were taken by their families to medical facilities for examination and monitoring.
After that, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that it had established an investigation team, coordinating with local authorities, the health sector and schools to handle the case according to regulations.
Functional agencies have reviewed and statistically analyzed suspected poisoning cases; collected patient information at medical examination and treatment facilities; and at the same time, conducted epidemiological investigations and verified suspected meals.
In addition, functional forces inspect the reality at schools and catering units, assess the conditions of processing, preserving, transporting food and tracing the origin of raw materials.
Saved food samples and drinking water being used have also been taken for testing. People participating in processing, dividing meals and serving meals are required to be tested to serve the investigation and determine the cause of the incident.
