Many high schools in Ho Chi Minh City have reduced their admission scores in the past year

The benchmark score for grade 10 in Ho Chi Minh City in 2024 recorded a series of top and mid-level schools with decreased scores, while many top and low-level schools in the suburbs increased their scores.

According to statistics from Lao Dong Newspaper, in the past year, the admission score (expectation 1) for grade 10 in public high schools fluctuated quite a lot.

In 2024, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has the highest benchmark score (24.25 points), while Binh Khanh High School, Can Thanh High School and An Nghia High School have the lowest score (10.5 points), meaning each subject candidate only needs to achieve 3.5 points to be admitted.

Compared to 2023, out of more than 100 public high schools, 60 schools have reduced their admission scores (a decrease of 0.25 to 2.25 points). These are mostly schools in the top and middle such as: Gia Dinh High School decreased by 1.5 points (from 24.5 to 23); Nguyen Thuong Hien High School decreased by 1.25 points (25.5 to 24.25);

Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School and Phu Nhuan High School decreased by 1 point; Mac Dinh Chi High School and Le Quy Don High School decreased by 0.75 points; Nguyen Huu Huan High School and Nguyen Huu Cau High School decreased by 0.5 points and Tran Phu High School decreased by 0.25 points.

In addition, the top 10 schools with the highest benchmark scores also had a slight change when Bui Thi Xuan High School was dropped from this list, replaced by the University of Education Practice High School.

In the group of top-down schools, many schools have recorded an increase in benchmark scores, of which Binh Chanh School for Ethnic Minorities increased the most with 2.5 points (from 11.5 in 2023 to 14); followed by Ngo Gia Tu High School increased by 2 points (from 12 to 14).

Quang Trung High School and Le Minh Xuan High School both increased by 1.75 points. The schools: Binh Chanh, Vinh Loc B, Phong Phu, Cu Chi, Phu Hoa, Nguyen Van Cu, Phuoc Kieng increased by 1.5 points; Tan Tuc, Trung Lap High School increased by 1.25 points... These are all schools in suburban areas.

In 2025, Ho Chi Minh City will have about 90,000 candidates graduating from junior high school. This year's 10th grade exam takes place on June 6-7, 2025. Candidates take the exam with 3 subjects, including: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes).

Candidates who register to take the exam to enter specialized high schools in the city must take the fourth subject (specialized subject) with a time of 150 minutes/subject. Each major has its own exam subject according to the junior high school subject program, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that major.

In the 2024 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 116,000 students graduating from junior high school, of which more than 98,000 candidates will take the 10th grade entrance exam, about 77,300 of whom will be admitted. The rest study at private schools, continuing education centers, vocational schools, study abroad...
