Predicting a decrease in the benchmark score for grade 10 in Hanoi in 2025

A representative of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training (DET) predicted that the benchmark score for grade 10 in Hanoi this year will decrease compared to last year, due to changes in the scoring method.

The 10th grade confidence festival took place on the morning of February 23 in Hanoi, attracting more than 4,000 students from Cau Giay, Tay Ho, Ba Dinh and Hoan Kiem districts. Many parents also attended the program.

Sharing at the program, Mr. Nghiem Van Binh - Deputy Head of the Department of Education Quality Management and Inspection, Hanoi Department of Education and Training said that at the end of February 2025, Hanoi Department of Education and Training will announce the first-level enrollment plan and the third exam subject in the entrance exam for grade 10.

However, he noted that students should not wait for the announcement of the third exam subject but should proactively develop a review plan and grasp the knowledge and basic requirements to be taught in the official curriculum.

Mr. Binh noted that when choosing wishes, there must be accompaniment from parents and schools that are suitable for family abilities and conditions, not according to the majority and tastes of friends.

"You will not be allowed to change your wishes after registering. Students who are admitted to wish list 1 will not be admitted to wish list 2 or wish list 3. Students who do not pass the first wish list will be considered for the second wish list. If there is no high score, all 3 wishes will be accepted" - Mr. Binh informed.

In addition, Mr. Binh analyzed that the new score this year will be converted to a scale of 10, not multiplying the coefficient, so the benchmark score will change.

"This year the standard score may not be as high as previous years, but not due to declining quality but due to changes in the way of calculating scores" - a representative of the Department of Education and Training shared.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhiep - Principal of Van An High School for the Gifted advised, students should not worry too much, instead know how to calculate and invest in review to promote strengths and increase capacity in weak subjects.

In each test, students must know where they were wrong and find out why they made the mistake. You can ask your friend and then ask your teacher to know this clearly. When they are proactive like that, they will not make the same mistake. Another thing is to clearly know what each subject has to do with high scores. As with Math, the tournament step cannot be missed. Because even if the results are correct but the solutions are not complete, the students can have their points deducted" - Ms. Nhiep shared.

Regarding wish registration, one content that is lacking interest is choosing a combined subject in high school.

Parents and students are only worried about the third exam subject, but there is also a further worry about choosing a combination after passing the exam. The 2018 GDPT program stipulates that for high school admission, there are 8 compulsory subjects, 4 elective subjects and 3 study topics. The subjects they choose have a great impact on their future university and career aspirations. A school that really likes it, but without a strong combination is not necessarily suitable. Therefore, in addition to the benchmark scores, students must carefully research the combinations of schools to choose them, Ms. Nguyen Thi Nhiep advised.

Contents related to extra teaching and learning have also been raised by many parents. Because currently, many schools in Hanoi have stopped teaching extra classes after Circular 29 of the Ministry of Education and Training took effect from February 14.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thanh - Director of the Department of Secondary Education advises students to proactively self-study and develop a review plan for themselves.

Mr. Thanh raised the question: "How many students have completed all the exercises and answered the questions in the textbook? ", and advised candidates and parents: "Investment 29 has many changes in the regulations on extra classes, but what I want to change more, invest more is 'additional classes' not 'additional teaching'. Additional learning is proactively self-study, self-reading, and self- complementation of knowledge. If you don't understand or don't know, you can ask the teacher, please help the teacher answer".
