The resistance rate is understood as the total number of candidates registering for wishes divided by 1 for the total enrollment quota of the school. This is one of the important indicators that help students and parents base their application for a suitable wish in the race for a place to study at public high schools.
According to statistics, in recent years, the rate of admission to public high schools in Ho Chi Minh City has always fluctuated continuously.
In 2024, Nguyen Huu Huan High School had the highest admission rate of 1/3.22. (ie, an average of 3.22 new candidates are admitted). Following them are Ho Thi Bi High School and Nguyen Thuong Hien High School with the fighting rates of 1/3.06 and 1/2.81, respectively.
Notably, among the 10 high schools with the highest competition rate is the appearance of Binh Hung Hoa High School, ranked 10th with a competition rate of 1/2.33.


In 2023, statistics from 108 public high schools showed that 71 schools had the number of wishes of 1 higher than the target and 37 schools had the number of wishes of 1 lower than the target.
Of which, Nguyen Thuong Hien High School has the highest difficulty rate of 1/3.55. Ranked 2nd is Gia Dinh High School with a fighting rate of 1/3.04. Nguyen Huu Huan High School is in 3rd place with a fighting rate of 1/2.61.
In addition, some other high schools also have high rates of competition in 2023 such as: Thu Duc High School (1/2.29), Nguyen Huu Tien High School (1/2.22), Ho Thi Bi High School (1/2.19), Pham Van Sang High School (1/2.17).
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 90,000 students studying in secondary schools, about 26,000 less than last year.
Currently, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City is coordinating with high schools to review the ability to receive grade 10 students.
According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, this year's enrollment quota will be based on the facilities, teaching staff... of public high schools, not based on the orientation of transferring students after junior high school as in previous years.
"The rate of students admitted to grade 10 this year will increase to at least about 70%, the previous year was 65%. However, the exact number must wait for consideration of places to study in high schools," informed the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
This year's 10th grade exam in Ho Chi Minh City will take place on June 6 - 7, 2025. Candidates take the exam with 3 subjects, including: Math, Literature (120 minutes/subject) and Foreign Language (90 minutes).
Candidates who register to take the exam to enter specialized high schools in the city must take the exam for the 4th subject (specialized subject) with a time of 150 minutes/subject. Each major has its own exam subject according to the junior high school subject program, the exam content ensures the selection of students with talent in that major.
In the 2024-2025 school year, Ho Chi Minh City has about 116,000 students graduating from junior high school, of which more than 98,000 candidates will take the 10th grade entrance exam, about 77,300 of whom will be admitted.
