In 2025, all three regions including Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau (before the merger) will organize 10th grade enrollment by three exam subjects: Math, Literature and English.
The admission score is calculated by the total score of three exam subjects and priority points (if any).
In region 1, the highest benchmark score in 2025 reached 24.5 points, equivalent to an average of over 8 points per subject. This is also the highest benchmark score among the three regions.
In the group of schools with low benchmark scores, many schools take from 10.5 to 11 points, corresponding to an average of more than 3.5 points per subject. The difference between schools with the highest and lowest benchmark scores is about 13-14 points.
In area 2 (Binh Duong before the merger), the benchmark score is mainly at 10-20 points. Compared to area 1, the highest benchmark score is lower, while the lowest score does not differ too much.
And in region 3 (Ba Ria - Vung Tau before), the highest benchmark score reached 21.25 points, lower than region 1 but still in the high group.
Notably, many schools in the bottom group have benchmark scores of only 5 to 6.5 points, equivalent to an average of about 1.7-2.2 points per subject. This is significantly lower than the general level.
The gap between the highest and lowest benchmark scores in this area is up to 15-16 points.

The 10th grade entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year in Ho Chi Minh City takes place on June 1-2 with more than 151,000 registered candidates. This is the first year the exam has been organized after Ho Chi Minh City expanded its administrative boundaries on the basis of merging with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau.
The 10th grade admission score is usually calculated by the total score of three subjects Literature, Mathematics and English along with priority points (if any). Candidates must take all three subjects, not violate exam regulations and have no exam papers with a score of 0.
Previously, on June 19, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training (GDĐT) announced exam scores, specialized and integrated benchmark scores. Mass 10th grade benchmark scores are expected to be announced on June 30.
According to Mr. Nguyen Van Phong - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, there have been 3,133 candidates confirming enrollment in specialized schools and schools with integrated English classes in the city.
According to Mr. Phong, most candidates confirming admission to specialized schools achieved high results in this year's 10th grade entrance exam. Through virtual filtering, all these candidates simultaneously registered for admission to the general system at many top high schools in the city such as Nguyen Thi Minh Khai High School, Le Quy Don High School and many other high-competitive schools.
When candidates confirm enrollment in specialized schools or integrated English classes, the Department will perform virtual filtering, erasing the remaining aspirations of candidates in the mass system. This helps release enrollment quotas at public high schools, thereby increasing the chances of admission for candidates waiting for the results of mass 10th grade enrollment throughout the city.
