These days, in Na Lam village, Dong Dang commune, preparations for the groundbreaking ceremony of Dong Dang Inter-level Boarding Primary and Secondary School are being urgently completed.
On the afternoon of March 18, according to PV's records, the area hosting the ceremony was renovated, the final parts were reviewed to be ready for the moment of launching a new educational project in the border area.
Dong Dang Inter-level Boarding School is built on a land area of about 5.18ha.
According to the expected scale, the project includes 36 classrooms, 10 subject rooms; learning support block with traditional rooms, libraries... The living service block is invested synchronously with kitchens, dining rooms, warehouses, 160 dormitory rooms...
It is expected that when it comes into operation, the school will meet a scale of 36 classes with about 1,420 students, including 700 primary school students and 720 secondary school students.
Dong Dang commune is currently established on the basis of merging 5 old communes and towns including Dong Dang town, Thuy Hung, Phu Xa, Hong Phong and Bao Lam.
This is a border commune in the north of Lang Son province, with a natural area of 91.57 km2, and a 19 km long border adjacent to China.
The whole commune has 36 villages and neighborhoods, of which 9 villages and neighborhoods border the border, 8 villages are particularly difficult; the population is nearly 25,000 people, mainly Nung, Tay, and Kinh people living together.
Currently, there are 13 public schools in the commune, including 5 kindergartens, 3 primary schools, 3 secondary schools, 1 primary and secondary school, and 1 secondary and high school for ethnic minorities.
Although 100% of schools have organized 2 sessions/day and 11/13 schools meet national standards, the need for a modern and synchronous multi-level boarding school model is still very urgent.
From the reality at the grassroots level, Ms. Hoang Thi Hien - Principal of Hong Phong Secondary School - said that the biggest difficulty currently is not necessarily the lack of classrooms, but the lack of conditions to organize lunch and lunch breaks for students.
According to the principal, currently, the school basically has enough classrooms to organize teaching and learning. However, the biggest difficulty is still the lack of lunch and lunch breaks for students.
Because there is no kitchen, after lunchtime, students have to return home and then return to school in the afternoon, which is very hard, especially for students far away, some students are about 16km away from school in both directions.
Current learning conditions are also only met at a minimum level. The school hopes that the new project will be completed soon so that students have a better learning environment, have more opportunities to participate in activities, access more modern learning conditions and be more confident in learning and life" - Ms. Hien shared.
Recorded in the area, many parents also expressed their desire for the project to be implemented soon and completed on schedule, so that children in border areas have more stable conditions for studying and living.
For families far from school, having more dormitory space, kitchen and centralized living area is very practical, helping students reduce travel difficulties, and parents are also more assured when their children go to school," Mr. Loc Van Minh (parent in Dong Dang commune) shared.
Mr. Hoang Manh Cuong - Chairman of Dong Dang Commune People's Committee said that the locality has coordinated with relevant units to review the preparation work, ensuring conditions for the groundbreaking ceremony to take place safely, solemnly, and on schedule.
The investment in building an inter-level boarding school in Dong Dang is expected to contribute to completing education infrastructure, creating conditions for children of ethnic minorities in the area to study in a better environment.
Notably, Dong Dang is not a single starting point.
Previously, in Lang Son, 4 other inter-level boarding schools were started and the progress is still moving day by day.
From Khuat Xa, Kien Moc, Mau Son to Quoc Khanh, items are gradually taking shape on the border strip of Lang land.
