In the last days of the year, strong cold air is covering the North, the temperature continues to drop sharply.
According to the forecast of the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, from the night of December 14 to December 15, the North and Thanh Hoa will experience severe cold, with severe cold in mountainous areas. The lowest temperature in this cold air mass will generally be from 10-13 degrees Celsius, in mountainous areas 7-10 degrees Celsius, and in high mountainous areas below 5 degrees Celsius.
In Ta Xua commune, Bac Yen district, Son La province, these days, thick fog covers the area, carrying cold winds that cut through the skin and flesh, seeping through the windows and into the purple feet of students in the difficult area.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Le Van Hoa - Principal of Ta Xua Primary and Secondary School - said: "In Ta Xua and some highland communes of Bac Yen district such as Hong Ngai, Hang Chu, Lang Cheu, at night and early morning, the temperature has dropped very low, fluctuating around 5-8 degrees Celsius. Fortunately, in the early morning, the temperature is around 10-12 degrees Celsius so studying is still going on normally."
However, according to Mr. Hoa, students in the highlands are lacking in all conditions. They do not have enough warm clothes, and many students come to class with purple feet from the cold.
Currently, the school has more than 800 students, most of whom are boarding students.
"The school encourages students to sleep 2 to a bed and cover themselves with 2 blankets to ensure warmth. At the same time, the school board and teachers on duty at the boarding house regularly check and remind students to close the doors to avoid drafts," said Mr. Hoa.

Not far away, at Lang Cheu Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities (Lang Cheu Commune, Bac Yen District, Son La Province), teachers and parents are also renovating the bathroom and toilet area for more than 200 students to ensure warmth for students during the cold winter.
Mr. Nguyen Huu Tung - Principal of Lang Cheu Secondary School for Ethnic Minorities - said that in previous years, due to the school's lack of facilities, students had to bathe in the outdoor bathroom without a roof or crowded together in the restroom.
Early this winter, the school called on parents to help renovate the bathroom and toilet areas for the children to avoid drafts.
"Along with that, the school has asked parents to contribute firewood to warm the students on cold days. At the same time, it has created conditions for students to boil warm water for bathing under the supervision of teachers," said the principal.

Mr. Nguyen Van Ha - Head of the Department of Education and Training of Bac Yen district - said that the department has directed schools to take measures to keep students warm, especially at boarding schools where students eat and sleep at school, such as proactively reminding students to wear warm clothes, and covering classrooms and dormitories to ensure their health.
"In case the temperature drops further, it rains, there is fog and frost, the room will also have flexible plans," said Mr. Ha.
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Son La province, the department has assigned professional staff to regularly update weather conditions to make appropriate adjustments.
In addition, the department has also directed schools to proactively take measures to prevent cold and keep students warm on the basis of ensuring students' health and ensuring the school year program.
