According to Lang Son Hydrometeorological Station, cold air continues to dominate the weather throughout the region. Cloudy, with light rain in some places; after rain, the temperature drops deeply, severe cold, harmful cold, strong Northeast winds. The common temperature is 8-15 degrees C, especially Mau Son 2-7 degrees C.
Before the dien bien of severe cold and harmful cold, Ms. Dao Thi Mai Huong - Vice Chairwoman of Mau Son Commune People's Committee said that the locality has seriously implemented the guiding documents of the education sector on cold prevention and control for students.

On January 22, preschool and elementary school students in the area had direct school breaks, some classes switched to online learning. The secondary school level still maintained normal learning but fully applied warm-up measures, especially at boarding schools.
The school has proactively prepared full blankets, and at the same time received additional support from organizations and philanthropists in the area," Ms. Huong informed.
In Son La, on January 22, cold air continued to intensify and expand its scope of influence. First of all, Moc Chau, Van Ho, Bac Yen, Phu Yen, Yen Chau districts were clearly affected, then spread throughout the province.
The lowest temperature is commonly 10-12 degrees Celsius, especially in high mountainous areas such as Moc Chau, Van Ho, Bac Yen, it decreases to 8-10 degrees Celsius.

Talking to PV, Mr. Le Van Hoa - Principal of Ta Xua Primary and Secondary School (Ta Xua commune) said that the whole school currently has 1,258 students, of which about 446 are boarding students. When the temperature drops low, the school proactively combines beds for students to sleep together, limit drafts, and mobilize socialized resources to supplement warm blankets.
The school has just received nearly 100 blankets from philanthropists, promptly supporting students during the severe cold days," Mr. Hoa said.
According to Mr. Hoa, in case of severe cold and frost, the suspension of students from school will be implemented according to the direction of the Department of Education and Training.
However, the school still flexibly keeps students at school, because for many students living far away, living conditions at school are warmer and safer than moving home in harsh weather.

Also in Ta Xua commune, Mr. Nguyen Huu Tung - Principal of Lang Cheu Ethnic Minority Boarding Secondary School said that cold prevention and control for students has been implemented right from the beginning of winter. The school has reviewed all facilities, inspected and reinforced the door system, and repaired damaged and broken glass doors to shield from cold winds.
On days when the temperature drops, the amount of firewood burned by parents contributed monthly, in addition to cooking, will be used to warm and boil bath water for the children. The burning and heating are carried out in the outside area, strictly complying with safety measures to avoid the risk of gas poisoning," Mr. Tung said.
Currently, the school has 336 students, of which 223 are boarding students, accounting for nearly 2/3 of the total student population.
Also according to school leaders, this winter, the lowest temperature in the area at night at times drops to about 2 degrees Celsius, frost appears, but during the day it increases to 7-8 degrees Celsius, still within the safe range for teaching and learning.
Since the beginning of the school year, the school has not had to let students stop studying due to the cold.
Faced with unfavorable weather developments, the education sector and localities are continuing to closely monitor the situation, proactively plan to let students take leave from school when the temperature drops to dangerous levels, and at the same time strengthen measures to keep warm and ensure health safety for highland students during prolonged cold days.
