Attending the physics class taught by Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong (born in 1992), a teacher at An Bien High School, An Bien District (Kien Giang), everyone felt the exciting atmosphere of the class. The students focused on the lecture content to ask questions and answer the problems raised by the teacher. Thanks to the innovation and creativity in the form of lecture content through teaching software application programs, the students have become more proactive and flexible in their studies.
Talking about creative ideas in applying modern teaching software, Mr. Phong said: Based on teaching practice, he sees that there are many contents that students do not understand and grasp clearly, cannot apply knowledge and skills and are still passive in solving problems, so there is a need for support tools.
In parts that are difficult to imagine, there should be simulations to help students visualize easily, or in some experiments that are difficult to perform (or due to limited equipment at school), through the outlined simulations, students will have experiences in the process of performing the experiment. From there, help students develop problem-solving skills and creativity.
In 2014, after graduating from the University of Education in Can Tho, Mr. Phong worked at An Bien High School. With the school's approval, from the 2016-2017 school year, Mr. Phong began applying Google utilities to create a learning space to promote students' self-study and self-review abilities. In the 2017-2018 school year, he introduced the technique of using ZipGrade multiple-choice scoring software on mobile phones to improve the effectiveness of the assessment process.
In the following school years, Mr. Phong had many initiatives recognized by the province, including: Discovering and fostering students' creativity through STEM education in Physics, approaching the new general education program; Exploiting and using Mozaik 3D digital learning materials combined with Google Classroom tools in teaching, towards developing learners' capacity; Exploiting Google applications in managing electronic learning records and assessing students, adapting to online teaching; Designing and using a learning website on the Google site platform towards promoting students' autonomy and self-study capacity, in the digital transformation period of the education and training sector...
In particular, Mr. Phong's initiative to exploit Google applications in managing electronic learning records and student assessment, adapting to online teaching, was applied effectively.
The highlight of the initiative is to stimulate students' interest in learning, promote their self-study and self-control abilities, and at the same time help teachers promptly give feedback, encourage and motivate students to study, thereby improving the quality of the subject. After applying the initiative, the number of excellent students in the school increased by 10%, good students increased by 8%, average students decreased by 14% and weak students decreased by 4%.
Nguyen Dam Anh Nhi - a student of class 10A1 at An Bien High School - shared: "Mr. Phong's lessons always make us feel happy, creating positive energy to study well. The lesson plans he prepares help students absorb easily, the links to exercises he sends create excitement for students to do the exercises."
Mr. Nguyen Van Vu - Vice Principal of An Bien High School - commented: "Mr. Phong is very passionate about his profession despite his young age. Especially in the movement of applying science and technology to teaching and learning, the projects that Mr. Phong guides always achieve high results and have very good practical applications, and are widely replicated."
Most recently, Mr. Phong was one of the typical faces to receive a Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister for his achievements in education and training from the 2018-2019 school year to the 2022-2023 school year; the Central-level "Outstanding Young Teacher" Award in 2024.
