In the 2025-2026 school year, Hanoi has 4 specialized high schools: Hanoi - Amsterdam, Nguyen Hue, Chu Van An and Son Tay.
From 8:00 a.m. this morning (September 9), candidates started taking exams for specialized subjects to register for the exam, including Literature, Math, and Foreign Language. The test takes 150 minutes.
At 3pm, candidates take the Natural Science exam (Physics, Chemistry, Biology); History, Geography and English. The test takes 150 minutes.
According to the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, the specialized subject exam consists of questions that are suitable for the requirements of the subject and the goals of the junior high school level in the 2018 General Education Program, mainly in the 9th grade junior high school level program, ensuring the levels of awareness: understanding, application.
The Natural Science subject will be admitted to the specialized class according to the following content: Physics (energy and transformation), Chemistry ( physical processes and changes of substances), Biology (biology); History and Geography will be admitted to the specialized class according to the subject: History (History), Geography (geography). Students take an alternative math exam to be admitted to the IT class.
In terms of form: Math, Literature, History and Geography subjects will be taken in an essay format; Foreign language subjects (taken in Foreign Language classes) will be taken in an essay format combined with objective multiple-choice questions to assess listening, reading, and writing skills (with an listening section).
The Natural Science subject is an essay exam combined with objective multiple-choice tests.

This school year, Hanoi has about 127,000 secondary school graduates. Students who register for the 10th specialized grade must go through two rounds.
Round one is the preliminary selection, based on high school transcript scores, excellent student exam results and students' social activities.
Preliminary admission score = scores for excellent and talented students (2-5 points per award) + transcripts (2-3 points per year if they have good academic performance). If they score 8 points or more, the contestant is eligible for the second round.
The entrance exam round takes place from June 7 to 9 with four subjects: Math, Literature, English and Business. Candidates are not allowed to add incentive or priority points.
The admission score for the 10th grade major is the total score of three subjects: Math, Literature, Foreign Language, combined with a professional subject with a coefficient of two, up to maximum 50.
In addition to wishing to enter the general system, students are allowed to register for a maximum of two specialized classes, exempted from overlapping exam schedules. Students who are admitted to school in three days of July 10-12, submit additional applications from July 19 to 22.
According to statistics from the Department of Education and Training, there are more than 13,000 candidates registered to take the specialized subject exam, distributed at 20 exam locations.

Previously, after two days of organization, the 10th grade entrance exam for public high school in Hanoi for the 2025-2026 school year was completed.
The whole city has 102,860 candidates registered to take the exam. The rate of candidates taking the Literature exam is 99.60%, Foreign Language is 99.59%, Math is 99.57%.
During the exam, there were 12 candidates who needed support in taking the exam due to health problems; 1 candidate violated the exam regulations (in the English exam) by bringing a phone into the exam room.
During the 2 days of the exam, no officer violated the exam regulations; the inspection and supervision work was carried out regularly and closely, ensuring the safety of the exam stages.
Hanoi City has established 201 exam locations with 4,411 official exam rooms and 201 reserve exam rooms. The city also mobilized more than 15,000 cadres, teachers, and staff to participate in the exam preparation work, nearly 1,000 police officers to participate in ensuring security and safety.
