The entrance exam to 10th grade in the 2026-2027 school year is implemented in two forms including entrance exam and admission consideration.
In which, the entrance exam applies to public high schools in the city, ensuring a balance between the number of registered candidates and the quota assigned to each school. The admission form is applied to some specialized schools, including:
Thanh An Secondary and High School (Thanh An commune) will consider admission for students who have completed the secondary school program at the school in the 2025-2026 school year.
Vo Thi Sau High School (Con Dao Special Zone) considers admissions for students who have completed the secondary school program at Le Hong Phong Secondary School (Con Dao Special Zone) in the same school year.
For Ethnic Minority Boarding Schools, the enrollment subjects are students who have completed the secondary school program at this school or students belonging to the group of subjects according to the regulations on organization and operation of Ethnic Minority Boarding Schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
Students register 3 aspirations for public schools
For public high schools, students participate in the entrance exam and register 3 aspirations in the order of priority 1, 2 and 3. If admitted to any aspiration, students must enroll at that school and must not change their aspirations after receiving the results.
Secondary schools are responsible for advising students to choose schools close to their residence, convenient for travel, suitable for their learning ability and family conditions. The city's enrollment system supports calculating the distance from the current residence according to VNeID data to each registered school.
According to the plan, if the distance from the residence to the registered school exceeds the regulations (over 10 km for the Ho Chi Minh City and Binh Duong areas before the merger; over 13 km for the Ba Ria - Vung Tau area before the merger), the school needs to work directly with parents for advice before students register their aspirations.
Supplementary enrollment can be organized
After completing the main enrollment phase, based on the number of students admitted but not enrolled and the needs of schools, the Department of Education and Training may consider organizing additional enrollment to ensure that schools enroll enough quotas.
The subjects participating in the supplementary enrollment are students who have participated in the 10th grade entrance exam but were not admitted to all three registered aspirations.
Expected 3-subject exam in early June
The 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City is expected to be held on June 1 and 2, 2026.
Candidates will take 3 subjects including Math, Literature and Foreign Language (Foreign Language 1 is being studied at the school). In which: Math, Literature (120 minutes), Foreign Language (90 minutes).
The admission score is the total score of three exams plus priority and encouragement points (if any). To be considered for admission, candidates must take all three subjects and no exam score is 0.
Students who simultaneously enjoy many priority and incentive regimes, the total bonus point maximum is no more than 3.5 points. The bonus point is only applied when considering admission to three regular nguyện vọng.
About 70% are admitted to public schools
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that this year the city has more than 169,000 9th grade graduates, an increase of nearly 43,000 compared to last year.
