According to the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, for the admission of grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some local secondary schools, the admission can be based on a combination of 2 criteria including the results of training and studying in the primary school years and the results of the capacity assessment survey. In particular, local secondary schools must simultaneously meet 2 requirements: Having the number of candidates registering exceeding the enrollment quota in recent years and being proposed by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts and towns.
The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to serve the work of allocating students, in which the admission areas of the schools are decided by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City, districts and counties according to the actual situation in the locality.
Last school year, Ho Chi Minh City had 6 secondary schools enrolling 6th grade students by combining admission with a competency assessment test, including: Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School (District 1); Tran Quoc Toan 1 Secondary School, Binh Tho Secondary School, Hoa Lu Secondary School (Thu Duc City); Nguyen Huu Tho Secondary School (District 7); Nguyen An Khuong Secondary School (Hoc Mon District).
The entrance exam for grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School was conducted by the Department of Education and Training, while the remaining 5 schools were organized by local education and training departments.
