Gia Lai requires schools to urgently inspect facilities, equipment, and clear trees to ensure the safety of students and teachers before the rainy and stormy season.

Given the current complicated weather situation, especially during the rainy and stormy season, it is urgent to check facilities and develop a disaster response plan to ensure the safety of students and teachers.

Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan has directed the Department of Education and Training and People's Committees of communes and wards to urgently review and complete disaster prevention plans, ensuring the safety of people and property in educational institutions under their management.

Schools must conduct a comprehensive inspection of facilities and equipment, especially classrooms, department rooms, electrical systems and fire prevention and fighting equipment; at the same time, repair and renovate damaged and degraded works and equipment. Absolutely do not put into use items that have expired and do not ensure safety.

Strengthen tree management in school grounds, timely pruning and cutting down trees at risk of falling, endangering people and works.

"The Director of the Department of Education and Training and the Chairman of the People's Committees of communes and wards are responsible to the Provincial People's Committee for ensuring the safety of teachers and students," emphasized the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee.

On September 30, Mr. Pham Van Nam - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province - said that the Department has requested educational institutions and People's Committees of communes and wards to urgently inspect all facilities and equipment, and at the same time prune and cut down trees at risk of falling to ensure absolute safety for students and teachers. Currently, schools are still implementing it.

Previously, in May and June 2025, heavy rain and tornadoes damaged 2 schools in the province, with a total damage of more than 130 million VND.

Specifically, the tornado on May 7 in Ia Chia commune blew off the roof of a 150m2 public housing unit, collapsed 30m of walls and damaged equipment at Le Hong Phong Secondary School, causing damage of about 80 million VND.

Heavy rain on June 10 in Po To commune collapsed 120m of the fence of Vo Thi Sau Primary School, causing damage of about 56 million VND. Up to now, these two communes have proactively balanced funding, repaired damage, and ensured teaching and learning conditions at schools.
