Tuyen Quang: Choosing Natural Science, towards scientific thinking
On January 14, informing reporters, Mr. Dinh The Hiep - Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Tuyen Quang province said that the Department has announced the selection of the third exam subject in the 10th grade high school entrance exam for the 2026-2027 school year as Natural Sciences, in addition to the two compulsory subjects Mathematics and Literature.
According to regulations, the Natural Science exam is organized in the form of objective multiple-choice, the exam time is 90 minutes, there are many exam codes in the same exam room, ensuring the principle that the two adjacent candidates do not overlap in exam codes.
Candidates take the test on multiple-choice answer sheets and the results are graded using the grading software.
The exam questions closely follow the requirements to be achieved of the secondary school program according to the 2018 General Education Program, built on the basis of the structure framework and exam matrix.
Also according to leaders of Tuyen Quang Department of Education and Training, the selection of Natural Sciences is a result of careful consideration in many aspects, from professional regulations to strategic orientations for human resource development.
Natural sciences are compulsory subjects, with high integration between Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Through this subject, the exam not only serves the purpose of enrollment but also contributes to comprehensively assessing scientific thinking, the ability to apply knowledge to practice, and at the same time orienting the choice of subjects and occupations for students right from the beginning of high school," the leader of Tuyen Quang Department of Education and Training emphasized.
To create favorable conditions for students, the Department of Education and Training of Tuyen Quang province has synchronously implemented many solutions.
Specifically, training core teachers right from the beginning of the school year, promulgating structure frames and reference exam questions, directing schools to proactively compile materials, organize tutoring and mock exams suitable to actual conditions, ensuring no pressure or chasing achievements.
Lang Son: Prioritizing English, serving integration
At the same time, Lang Son province is planning to choose English as the third exam subject for 10th grade in 2026.
Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Hoang Van Thao - Head of Secondary Education Department, Department of Education and Training of Lang Son province - said that this choice is to be consistent with the project to make English the second language in the province.
Lang Son has started a pilot program at Chu Van An Specialized High School, with the goal of teaching English to students from grade 1, gradually using English in teaching some other subjects, in parallel with preserving and promoting the mother tongue.
Son La: Combined exam, comprehensive assessment
Meanwhile, Son La province is expected to apply a combined knowledge exam plan.
On the afternoon of January 14, Mr. Nguyen Van Chien - Director of the Department of Education and Training of Son La province - said that the province's 10th grade entrance exam will include three exams: Math, Literature and one combined exam.
The combined exam lasted 90 minutes, including 80 multiple-choice questions, with content spanning the subjects of History and Geography, Natural Sciences and English.
If calculated by subjects separately, this exam covers up to 8 knowledge contents: Math, Literature, History, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
The exam structure is designed in a light pressure direction, in which 70% of the questions are at the level of recognition, 20% of understanding and only 10% of application.
According to Mr. Chien, this approach helps limit students from memorizing into a single exam subject, reflecting more fully the overall competence, in line with the current orientation of innovation in testing and assessment.
The Department of Education and Training of Son La province has also issued sample and matrix questions for teachers and students to get acquainted with and organize mock exams.
For provinces such as Dien Bien and Thai Nguyen, the selection of the 3rd exam subject for 10th grade is continuing to be implemented.
