Opening a new industry to catch up with the trend
The planning of the university network for the period 2021 - 2030 has just been approved by the Government, with 5 higher education institutions oriented to focus on developing technology and engineering in the coming period, including: Hanoi University of Science and Technology, Hanoi University of Construction, University of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education and the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology.
In addition to the above 5 training institutions, the Government also prioritizes investment in developing schools with strengths in research and training in STEM fields and fields in conjunction with the development orientation of key socio-economic sectors of each region such as the strong group in Natural Sciences, Life Sciences; strong group in Computer Science and Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electronics and Communications; strong group in mechanical engineering, electronics, control and automation, construction and transportation...
Therefore, in 2025, higher education institutions will continue to focus on opening new majors and increasing the scale of training for these majors.
For example, the University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City National University this year opened many new majors such as: Business Administration, microchip Design, Renewable Energy, Digital Biotechnology, Digital Business, Circular Economics. Each major recruits 40 students.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung - Principal of CMC University - said that the unit is training 17 training programs, including the Computer Science major, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI). This year, the school opened a new major to attract candidates, meeting the needs of society, such as the majors: Software Engineering - Communications integrated with AI; Digital Marketing - bringing digital technology; Logistics and supply chains; Game graphics; Smart robots.
Similarly, Phenikaa University this year also opened 8 new majors, including: Law, Business Law, International Law, International Trade Law, Auditing, Smart Electromechanical System, Multimedia Communications and Mid-range Communications. In particular, the school focuses on developing the Technical block with new majors such as: Smart electronics, as well as majors in the Health Science block, Medical Electronics and many other multi-disciplinary majors.
Important notes when choosing an industry or career
Choose a hot major? Choose a new major or choose traditional training majors? These are questions that parents and students are wondering before choosing a major or university.
"Studyes are trending, hot-point industry often has very high benchmark scores, while traditional industry has lower benchmark scores. But the important thing is, after 4 or 5 years of university, what are the job opportunities" - Ms. Le Thi Ha (Thanh Hoa) - a parent whose child attends the 2025 high school graduation exam shared.
According to the analysis of Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha - Head of Public and Business Relations Department, the University of Mining and Geology, basic science are the foundational majors, essential for the development of science, technology and socio-economics of each country.
Students studying in this group have many open job opportunities due to high recruitment demand, but the number of candidates is not enough.
"The current shortage of basic science majors in society may also be due to the trend, so some students also follow other majors. However, the basic science majors that society is in great need of and every day many businesses are coming to the University of Mining and Geology to ask for those engineers such as the majors of applied ge mastering, petroleum, geology, mining, geophysics and many other majors that students can now graduate from can ensure all businesses can find and recruit them all" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Viet Ha informed.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Tung advised candidates to choose majors and schools based on 3 criteria: First, candidates should see what they want and which majors are suitable for them. This is the most important criterion. Second, choose majors that are of interest and investment to the State. Third, choose schools and professions with academic and practical connections, how to let students study in school, narrowing the gap with businesses.
