According to Lao Dong Newspaper on the morning of May 16, many roads in the center of Can Tho City are being invested in renovation, from upgrading road surfaces, sidewalks to drainage systems. These changes not only contribute to ensuring urban aesthetics but also create favorable conditions for people in living and traveling.
Tran Van Hoai Street: From a "flooded center" to a new drainage route

On Tran Van Hoai Street, this route was previously considered one of the "flooded navels" of the city center. This place was often submerged in water during heavy rains or high tides, affecting the travel, business and daily life of households, especially students studying at schools on the route.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy An (38 years old, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city) whose child attends a school on Tran Van Hoai street said that before, whenever it rained or the tide was high, the water was deep, the motorbike stalled in the middle of the road, both annoying and dangerous.
"Now that we have seen the road being upgraded and the drainage culverts being larger, we are very happy. We also hope to upgrade the road faster to have a complete road because some work is still unfinished," Ms. Thuy An happily said.

According to the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Ninh Kieu District (Can Tho City), the Tran Van Hoai Street upgrade project has reached more than 60% of the progress, expected to be completed in July 2025. The project has a total investment of more than 49.4 billion VND, a length of 525m, and a road width of 40m. The construction items include upgrading road surfaces, sidewalks, drainage systems, and many other items.
Upgrading the 30/4 route and the synchronous drainage system
Along with Tran Van Hoai Street, 30/4 Street from Mau Than Street to Tran Van Hoai Street is also being upgraded. The project has a total investment of more than 10.9 billion VND; started on February 12, 2025 and is expected to be completed within 150 days.


According to the design, the road will be upgraded and renovated with a total length of about 450m, a roadway width of 26m (according to the current status), and a road surface of hot asphalt concrete. Other auxiliary items and technical infrastructure are also invested synchronously, including: renovation of median strips, surface drainage systems, paving sidewalks and other upgrades and renovations.
Observations show that the road surface on this section is basically completed. The sidewalk section is being accelerated by the construction unit to meet the set schedule.

Many inner-city streets are being renovated simultaneously
For the project to upgrade Nguyen Trai Street (from Cai Khe Bridge to Hung Vuong roundabout), Phan Dang Luu Street (from Hung Vuong Street to Bui Thi Xuan Street) and some roads in Cai Khe Trade Center, the goal is to overcome and limit flooding during rain and high tides, ensure traffic safety and urban beautification.
The scale of upgraded investment with a total length of about 1.47km (including elevation and asphalt pavement, renovation of drainage system, replacement of Sodium high-voltage lamps for LED lighting and some other works)... with a total investment of more than 20.9 billion VND.

It was continued to be noted that on Nguyen Trai Street in the afternoon of the same day, the road surface has been paved with asphalt, making it easier for people to move. However, the sewer mouth and sidewalk are still not completed, and workers are actively speeding up construction.
Project 3 to renovate 32 flood prevention routes
Recently, Can Tho City has given priority to the implementation of many projects to solve the situation of the road surface level, flooding, as well as adjusting urban urban areas of the city center. Accordingly, Project 3 (Can Tho City Development Project and enhance the ability to adapt the world bank loan capital) with the category of renovating the drainage system in the central area of Ninh Kieu District, which has renovated the drainage system and carpeting the road surface to ensure urban beauty in 32 roads in the district.
